J. Magloire
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New Jersey Nets waived center Jamaal Magloire on Friday.

The eight-year pro played in 24 games this season, averaging 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. He signed with the Nets in July.

The former All-Star has averaged 8.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in 530 NBA games with Charlotte, Milwaukee, Portland and New Jersey.

This would be a nice pickup for us. He is the type of player that we are targeting. He can provide as a quality big body who can rebound and defend. WE could use him for the playoff stretch run and playoffs.

The price tag will not be high, the Nets are still paying. We will only have to sign him to a pro-rated league min. contract for remaining of the season. His stats are bad because the Nets have been in chaos since the season started. First they had to fight through Vince's injury then Kidd's trade demands, now the Nets are officially in rebuilding mode, which means more playing time for young players.

I just hope his agent and Otis are on the phone with each other. He wants to join a playoff contending team that needs a big men and we need another big men to provide quality depth behind Howard and Foyle.

I think he could fit in here as well, but he has to want to be a role player

He has to be a role player here. I dont think he could go to any team at this point in the season and expect to start.

No I'm talking about rebounding and defense being his role. A lot of people use that term for starting/bench, but that isn't what I was talking about. He can't come here and think he's going to get offensive touches.

I don't see him coming here and demanding the ball. He knows at his point of his career he just needs to bang down low and do his job. We could even go after Dale Davis if he's still available. I know he's old as dirt but he's serviceable.

If we got him for dirt cheap then he could be a nice pickup. But hes had big contracts for a while so knowing him he probably wont want the vets contract.

I'm just surprised we didn't make a trade because Otis says he "likes" our team, but Carlos Arroyo hasn't seen the light of day in three games.

My guess is that Otis and SVG talked it over and SVG let him know not to trade any of the PGs because he might switch them from starter to bench at anytime.

He signed a one year deal with the Nets. Nets still have to pay him the remaining of the contract. We only will have to pay him the vet league min if we can get him.

No, his agent could ask for more. We dont get to just decide his contract length and amount. But if we could get him for the league min then i dont see why we shouldnt.
