We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. Message from Rudy Gay to Dwight:
- Quote:
-
Me and Dwight, we've been going at it since high school. It was funny because he wasn't in the dunk contest in the McDonald's game, but in the layup line before the game we had a little dunk contest of our own. We all felt like we were jipped and cheated, so, we were like, "Let's have our own dunk contest right here." We went ahead and did it and I saw him do some crazy stuff then, so, I know what he can do.
Before I go, I have a message for Dwight:
You have that idea about moving the goal to 12 feet? If you want to do it, go ahead and do it. I'm pretty confident in my jumping ability. If you go before me, I'll leave it up there and do my dunk.

I would want to see Gay do that. I doubt he could, but if he did, he'd probably end up winning it just because.

If Rudy Gay can pull that off, that would be sick. They probably wouldn't raise the rim though.

Have the 3-point contest shooters been announced yet? How did we know Lewis was in it...?
(Obviously you would think him or Hedo was in it, but is it official?)

And heres what Gerald Green said to this:

NBA.com: Rudy posted his first dunk blog yesterday, and he said if Dwight puts the basket at 12 feet, Dwight should just leave it there so he can do his dunk. What do you think of that?
Gerald Green: I don't know, I might see if they can raise mine to 13 feet. I think 12 feet might be a little too short for me.

Ive been looking for info about this for weeks it seems. They still dont have the info about it up on nba.com, so maybe its still not decided yet and they will choose coming up. Either way its taking them really long and i think they should have chosen by now. Heres the link: http://www.nba.com/allstar2008/three_point/
And i saw that Rashard was going to be in the 3pt contest from the Orlando Sentinel but i cant find the page. I dont want to let anyone down, but thats what it said so im assuming its still true. Plus hes #1 in 3pt attemped and #2 (behind J-rich) in 3pt made, so it makes sense.

ORLANDO – Magic standout forward Rashard Lewis said he has no interest in competing in the 3-Point Shootout at The NBA All-Star Game, but Hedo Turkoglu is still holding out hope for a nomination to the event.
Lewis, the NBA leader in 3-pointers attempted (336) and second in 3-pointers made (129), said he would prefer to use all-star weekend to rest up for the second half of the season. Lewis, who is in his first season with the Magic after inking a $118 million contract this past summer, competed in the 3-point shootout twice before in his career when he was playing for the Seattle SuperSonics.
"I haven’t heard anything about it yet, but I’m not sure I even want to do it anyway,’’ Lewis said. "I may just take that weekend off. I may just get some rest, relax and get ready for the second half of the season.’’
Turkoglu was left off the Eastern Conference all-star squad despite having a huge, breakout season for the 31-18 Magic. Turkoglu, who was hoping for the first all-star nomination of his career, is averaging 19.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 37.9 minutes _ all career highs. He enters tonight’s home game against the Dallas Mavericks having swcored at least 20 points in eight consecutive games.
Turkoglu was left off the team when forwards Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler were picked ahead of him. Detroit’s Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton and Atlanta’s Joe Johnson made the team as reserve guards. LeBron James and Kevin Garnett are the starting forwards.
Turkoglu could still be added to the Feb. 17 All-Star Game if an injured player is unable to play. Also, he could be named one of the contestants in the Feb. 16 3-Point Shootout. Turkoglu is seventh in the NBA in 3-pointers attempted (263) and eighth in 3-pointers made (99).
Turkoglu said he’s already made some vacation plans for all-star weekend, but he said he would gladly change them if he gets the all-star call.
"I just hope nobody gets hurt,’’ Turkoglu said. "If I get called, I will go. Even my opponents, I don’t want them to get hurt. I want to be there when I deserve to go. Hopefully, one day I will deserve it.’’
Magic franchise center Dwight Howard was picked as the Eastern Conference’s starting center. It is his second all-star appearance and his first start. He will also compete in the Slam Dunk Contest on Feb. 16.

Kobe, Nash, Peja And Kapono Headline 3-Point Contest
The Toronto Raptors ’ Jason Kapono will defend his title in this year’s Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at New Orleans Arena as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night.
Kapono will attempt to become the first back-to-back winner of the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout since Peja Stojakovic won the 2002 and 2003 titles. Stojakovic will return to the competition representing the hometown New Orleans Hornets for the first time since finishing as runner-up in the 2004 competition. Stojakovic and Kapono will be joined by Western Conference starter and 10-time All-Star Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers , Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers , Richard Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons and two-time MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns .
Sorry about the Rashard in the 3pt contest reporting on my part, i guess he backed out.

Yeah, that's pretty weak. Him or Hedo should have been in it.

I was hoping Turk would get invited. That way, he'd at least be there to throw lobs to Dwight in the dunk contest.

Arroyo can dunk on a 20-foot rim.
20-ft rims are just what he warms up on. He's on the Harlem Globetrotters.
Kobe in the 3pt contest? That's pretty random. Definitely didn't expect that. Where's Garrity at?
