We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. The Magic have been searching for another big man for weeks, either through free agency or a trade.
And while they can use their $2.6 million Tony Battie injury exception (they wouldn't have to take back a player, for instance), the Magic also might have to deal a player to help Dwight Howard in the rebounding department.
You all know the untouchables: Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis (he has to be the most untouchable player in THE league with that contract).
(And the Magic obviously can't deal power forward-center Adonal Foyle, their only other experienced big other than Howard.)
Here are the odds on Magic players who could be dealt for a big (for entertainment purposes only of course):
Point guard Carlos Arroyo (5-2): Arroyo has played well as Nelson's back-up, but the Magic might believe they can get by with Keyon Dooling as the reserve point because of his defense. There's always a few teams in need of point-guard help, but getting a big for a small is a tough task. Arroyo has what other clubs covet: The ever-popular, salary-cap friendly expiring contract.
Power forward Pat Garrity (8-1): Pat has rediscovered some of his game as a respected 3-point shooter, but whether it is enough to make him tradeable is debatable. He, too, has an expiring contract, however, that could bring a serviceable big.
Trevor Ariza (10-1): No one would have thought this possible at the end of the last regular season after watching Ariza slash and crash the boards. But Ariza clearly has been the odd-man out under Stan Van Gundy, who uses him out of the bullpen in primarily defensive situations. He's still young and has a very tradeable contract. At 21, Ariza probably has the most value and upside for another team. (I'd hold on to him).
Combo guard Keyon Dooling (12-1): Van Gundy coached Dooling in Miami and likes his energy and defense. He's clearly the best defensive guard, so it is doubtful the Magic would pull the trigger unless a decent big pops up. He also is in the last year of his deal.
Shooting guard Keith Bogans (14-1): Bogans has had a revival after wasting away on Brian Hill's bench last season, and can play defense and shoot the 3 in the club's Run 'n Gundy style. But the Magic are overloaded at two-guard, which could make him expendable. What he could bring in a trade is debatable.
Shooting guard J.J. Redick (15-1): J.J. can't shake the injury bug, although he had no role when the regular season started. Somebody could take a chance on him just because he'd be regarded as one of the best shooters in the league if he could stay on the floor. The Magic extended him recently, and although his contract is tradeable, the club might be unwilling to take a P.R. hit after getting little or nothing out of another first-round pick.
Small forward Hedo Turkoglu (20-1): Magic wouldn't want to part with him unless they could get a near all-star calibre big --- and nobody trades those unless the guy (see Ron Artest of Sacramento) has character issues. Turk and Lewis have played terrifically together, but Artest at power forward and Lewis moved back to his natural small-forward position would be an intriguing, but very risky, pairing. Artest makes them tougher and more defensive-minded, but carries more baggage than Samsonite.
Point guard Jameer Nelson (25-1): Nelson being traded after signing a 5-year, $35-million deal would be the biggest longshot.
Spanish power forward Fran Vazquez (30-1): The Magic could trade the rights to Vazquez --- but nobody seems to know where the guy's head is at.
Oh and by no means am i endorsing trading any of these guys (except pat and Vazquez), but im just posting the article.

Ariza more likely to be traded than Dooling? Really? Well, the article is a few days old, so maybe I'll cut him some slack.

I think we shouldn't trade anybody. If anything, we can add someone, but I don't wanna do anything to tamper this team's chemistry.
