NOTE FROM THE FORUM OWNER:

We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. You can also visit the original MagicMadness Forum at http://orlandomagic.proboards.com.

Special thanks to our Staff Members: Black and Blue, MAGICMANEVAN, and NYCMagicFan!

The Orlando Magic pushed their chips -- 203 million of them, to be exact -- to the middle of the table this offseason.  By going out and getting marquee free agent Rashard Lewis (six years, $118M) and inking franchise centerpiece Dwight Howard to an extension (five years, $85M), the Magic have a couple hundred million reasons to believe they’re ready to contend.  Now.

While a lot will be expected of D12 and Raw Lew, one of the most important pieces of the puzzle will be Jameer Nelson.  To cap his first full season as Orlando’s starting point guard, Jameer went head-up with Chauncey Billups in his postseason christening, and didn’t do too bad for himself -- he put up 14 points a game against the former Finals MVP in an all-too-predictable series loss.  But over the summer, Jameer was dealt a devastating personal loss when his father, Floyd “Pete” Nelson, died in a workplace accident.  The emotional impact such an event can have on a player -- can have on a man -- is impossible to predict.  Losing his father is partly what pushed Michael Jordan, perhaps the fiercest and most focused athlete of our time, into his first retirement.  What will it do to Jameer Nelson?

This article just basically tells us what we already know.

I think Jameer will have a solid season. His assists are up, TOs are down. But he is still looking for his shot and his role on offense.
