I freaked out for a second when I was looking at these posts talking about trading Turk, without looking at the post dates :)

Glad to see we got it and hopefully we can do something nice with it.

Eh.. Offense is not what we need from a big. And Foyle is the type of big guy that we needed with the loss Tony. Adonal has that hard nosed type of game, much moreso than Brown. Nothing against PJ but if were comparing defense, i take Foyle.

I disagree with you MME on Foyle being a better defender than PJ Brown. There is a reason even at his age he was still able to make the starting lineup. It's because of his D. His offense is just an added bonus. You are right, we don't need offense, but if we can pick someone who has it on top of his D, that is a bonus.

Now, what I don't get is why you wouldn't want us to get him when IMO he is our best bet. Foyle will still be there on the rotation, but we would have 2 bigs to spare. Lesser time for Pat Garrity. :D

Pat Garrity should jump off a house or something.

Oh, no i wasnt saying i dont think we should get him. I was just taking about thier defensive games thats all. Adonal is a MUCH better shot blocker and can guard the big guys (the eddy currys, shaqs, duncans) of the NBA. But if we get him, thats great, like you said less time for Garrity. I would want to get all the bigs we can, we will need them eventually, if not now, then the playoffs.

Great news about the exception. Let's go get our big man now. My list in free agency is:
1. Anderson Varejao (Not that I expect him to come here based on how much money he wants, but he would be at the top of my list)
2. Chris Webber
3. PJ Brown

I put Webber ahead of Brown because he gives us some scoring that our bench really lacks right now. He will also help us out on the boards a bit. Not as much as Brown, but I don't think Brown has much of an offensive game. I'd rather give up a little less rebounding for a much better offensive game.

In another thread, I said I would trade Arroyo and Redick/Garrity for SAR or another solid big. I am temporarily taking back that statement. I am a big believer in not fixing something that isn't broken. Our record and the fact that we've been given this exception is reason enough for me to say that we should just try to add someone through FA. If we can't get anyone in FA, then I'd be open to a trade, but we should really try to get one of these 3 guys on the list (Varejao is an obvious and basically impossible longshot).

BTW, if we sign someone in FA, do we have to cut someone or does that player take the roster spot of Battie? I would think that we wouldn't have to cut someone, but can someone clarify for me?

I really think that we would have to cut someone. Because Battie still counts as a roster spot even though hes out for the year. The injury exception doesnt take away his roster spot or give us an extra one, it only gives us half his salary to sign someone else. So i guess that means Otis would have to cut someone like Outlaw or hopefully Garrity
