Agent Aaron Goodwin said that the Magic haven't contacted him about the availability of free agent Chris Webber, but he expects them to do so.

"I haven't had any new conversations about Chris and Orlando. I do expect that Otis (Magic General Manager Otis Smith) will at least reach out," said Goodwin, who represents Webber and Dwight Howard among others.

Webber has indicated he likely will return to the Detroit Pistons, but the Pistons can only offer him the minimum of $1.2 million.

If the Magic are granted an injury exception for Battie -- who is expected now to likely miss the entire season with a rotator cuff injury -- it will be worth about $2.6 million (half of Battie's salary this season), more appealing to free agents.

Smith said he has received several offers from teams trying to trade big men.

...According to onlookers, PG Jameer Nelson, F Hedo Turkoglu and SG Keith Bogans stood out [during a scrimmage Sunday]...

If the Orlando Magic lose forward Tony Battie for the season after shoulder surgery, and the team gets an injury exception from the league, the Magic would have more money to pursue a veteran power forward.

Free agents Chris Webber and P.J. Brown are still available and as is former Magic power forward Juwan Howard who is on the Minnesota Timberwolves trading block, though the Magic might be leery of the $6.8 million he's due this season and $7.3 million next season.

Webber is going to be expensive.
My Greek team Olympiakos has offered him about $10-12 million for a few years to play there (probably just a decoy for C-Webb to get more money from Detroit).

I give it a 1% chance that we nab him.

If the Magic get an injury exception for Battie, they'll have another $2-3 million to offer Webber, which is more than any other NBA team can offer him. The fact that he'd start for us also works in our favor.

I would be happy with Webber, Brown, or Howard. We just need another big man in the middle. I would prefer Webber or Brown.

I don't know if Webber sees us as a contender if he comes to the team, so I doubt that he will come to Orlando. Maybe we can get Brown or at least Howard.

The reason I dont like CWebb is his lack of defense. IMO we need a guy like Brown (if he doesnt retire) or Marc Jackson who would be considerably cheaper than CWebb and can rebound and block shots, Throw is body around.

ESPN is now reporting that Webber can only see hmself returning to the Pistons. Doesn't look like he'll ever wear Magic blue.

No big deal on that. Webber wouldn't be on the top of my list anyways. Foyle will step in and get Battie's minutes (hopefully) and we need someone that will play a little D and get some rebounds in just a few minutes a game.

ESPN.com -
Chris Webber said Monday that he will not be accepting a lucrative offer to finish his career in Greece and revealed that the Pistons are the only team he can see himself playing for this season.

Webber also told ESPN.com in a phone interview that he's still "weighing all my options," which include the possibility of retirement at age 34 if he doesn't return to the Pistons.

It looks like we are running out of options. I'm just wondering if we can at least make an offer to Sideshow Bob. He is still unsigned.

Yeah, but his agent is asking for 10 millions /year ...

LOL, yeah, 10 millions per year... that's what you get for speaking to the press after a couple of joints.

I really think Otis needs to go after marc Jackson. AN underrated Good mid range game, good size at 6'10, 270. Underrated IMO
