Veteran center Adonal Foyle has agreed to terms with the Orlando Magic, according to league sources, waiting only for his agent/attorney to return to the country to make it official. The announcement could come Friday.

Foyle accepted a contractual buyout earlier this summer from the Golden State Warriors.

Foyle, 32, has played his entire, 10-year NBA career with the Warriors, who selected him from Colgate University with the No. 8 pick of the 1997 draft.

He is primarily a defensive specialist, who is a better-than-average shot blocker with a limited offensive game.

The Magic expect to use him at both center and power forward, playing behind Dwight Howard and Tony Battie. He is expected to fill the void -- at least defensively -- left by the departure of Darko Milicic.

Magic General Manager Otis Smith would not confirm the agreement with Foyle, only saying, "We are moving in that direction.''

Lon Babby, Foyle's agent, has been out of the country the past two weeks and did not return phone messages left on his office voice mail. He is expected back in the United States today.

Although several teams were courting Foyle -- including the Charlotte Bobcats and Boston Celtics -- coming to Orlando was attractive to him because of the proximity to family still living in the Caribbean.

He was born and raised on the island of Canouan, which is part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also has remained friends with Smith, formerly a front-office executive with the Warriors.

The Magic on Friday also are expected to announce the signing of former second-round draft pick Marcin Gortat, who played center and power forward the past two seasons in Europe.

The Magic will sign Foyle to the NBA veteran's minimum of $1.2 million (based on his 10 years of experience). Foyle has been among the NBA's top shot blockers throughout his career.

He is the Warriors' all-time leader in blocked shots (1,140). He has averaged 1.78 blocks through 10 seasons, despite often playing limited minutes. He played in only 48 games last season, averaging 10 minutes, 2.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.04 blocks, never figuring in the system used by Coach Don Nelson.

He was scheduled to make $8.9 million this season and $9.7 million next season with the Warriors. He accepted slightly less from Golden State to become a free agent, knowing he could make up the difference by signing with another team.

Although still an effective defensive center, he didn't fit into the up-tempo, helter-skelter style that was so exciting for the Warriors during the playoffs.

His presence will allow the Magic often to use Howard at power forward, giving them more flexibility with the addition of highly touted forward Rashard Lewis, their No. 1 free-agent acquisition.

Although Foyle doesn't mesh with the Magic's hopes of using more athletic players in an up-tempo style this season, they were in desperate need of an experienced frontcourt player to provide quality depth.

The Magic attempted to sign Foyle as a free agent three years ago, but he received a much better offer to stay with the Warriors. His addition this week also will take pressure off Gortat and second-year power forward James Augustine, who will provide more depth in the frontcourt.

When Foyle and Gortat are signed, the Magic will have 14 players under contract. That would leave them with one roster spot open, which should help them attract a few good prospects for training camp that opens Sept. 29.

If Foyle can Block shots for Orlando like he did for the Warriors & I don't know why he couldn't he should be a very good backup at the Power Forward & Center for Battie & Howard in 07-08 Cross Your Fingers!!!!
