Florida Today -
The Orlando Magic have held preliminary trade discussions with the Denver Nuggets about power forward Reggie Evans, but the deal still might be weeks away from transpiring.

One rumored trade could feature the Magic sending Keyon Dooling and Pat Garrity to Denver for Evans and enigmatic shooting guard J.R. Smith. The Magic would have to throw in another low-salaried player to make the deal work.

I guess it would be an ok trade although keyons energy would be greatly missed, and SVG will have to light a fire under JR Smiths butt and make him play w/ energy, i wouldnt want his lazy attitude infecting this team, i already think their a bit lackadaisical

I'm kinda hit-or-miss on this as well. This does give us depth at our two positions that lack the most depth...and clearly dealing Dooling and Garrity does even out in a deal for Evans and Smith. I can't say I'm enamored with adding J.R. Smith...although he could relish the idea of possibly starting on a playoff team.

Considering what we are going to give up on this deal, I like this one if Otis can get it done.

I saw in a Florida Today article that Otis mentioned there are no agreements in place yet and they are not in a hurry to get it done. For me, this one makes sense.

Personally, I think the Magic would be crazy to not jump on this one. We'd get two young talented players at positions of need and still have the veteran's minimum to use.

I would really like to get Evans for his hustle (minus the nut-grabbing), and I wanted to get JR when he was a free agent. He is immature, but in a free agency in which many were in favor of getting Ron Artest I wouldn't mind adding him at all.

They aren't perfect, but right now two better candidates haven't popped up at me to fill the holes we have on our team.

I'm 100% against dumping Keyon Dooling. Okay, adding J.R. Smith gives us another three-point shooter, and we all know Reggie Evans can rebound. But we'd be giving up arguably our best perimeter defender, the guy we rely on to cover the opposition's best small guard. Look at our other perimeter players: Ariza, Nelson, Arroyo, Redick, Bogans, Lewis, and Turkoglu. Of those, only Ariza is an above-average defender. Do we really want to be like Washington, a team that scores a ton but gives up a ton as well?

Basically, Evans fills a need as a rebounder, but Dooling's departure would just leave another hole. I don't like this deal unless Denver is willing to take Arroyo.

If Denver would take Arroyo, I would jump on this immediately. However, I'd be hesitant to trade Dooling. He was our only real sparkplug for most of last season. He's a quality defender and a decent offensive player, and we've never had any qualms about his attitude (and he has a remarkable hair cut).

J.R. Smith is a gamble. He could have an about-face with his attitude and energy, and we could wind up a big winner. Or his apathetic nature could destroy the team chemistry and "infect" the rest of our young players. Who knows. Getting Evans would be the biggest plus (as well as getting rid of Garrity). He's a good player, an above average rebounder, and would provide much needed depth in the frontcourt.

I'd think long and hard about this deal if I were Otis, but in the end, I would probably pull the trigger.

Even though that deal is just a rumor, if it is a deal being talked about Otis just has to jump on it. We give up Dooling, but JR Smith is a big 2 guard and is a really good player who can come off the bench or start if we have to. Reggie Evans is the perfect big man to put next to Dwight since he has that defensive mindset and tenacity that we so desperately need. Plus hes an amazing rebounder and with him and Dwight we will grab every rebound.

And thus begins the great JR-Dooling debate.

Since SVG likes Dooling, I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't one of the many impediments to this trade right now (the hesitancy of the Magic shows there are at least a few).

Like many of you, I am bigger on the Evans part of this deal than anything. I think I am more in the camp of adding JR Smith than most other are, especially if we could get him cheap and SVG is up to the challenge. If we could do the deal for Arroyo we'd be much, much better off, but Dooling might be something the Nuggets demand to get Evans over here.

This trade for the Magic is great, they are basically getting a starting caliber PF in Evans and a possible allstar in Smith for free. Getting all this for Pat and Dooling would be a steal and better the goal of making playoffs and becoming contenders.

With all this being said I don't think this deal goes down. I understand Denver would do this trade to cut down on pay role but Smith has to much talent to give up on. Denver could care less if they trade Evans for expring contracts because they do have Nene, Camby and a healthy Martin coming back next season. But with smith, Denver had a side kick for Melo who would run with him long after Iverson is gone.

I understand he did have a rough playoffs series against the spurs were he did some pretty stupid things but that does not warrent a trade. He is just 21 and it was the beinning of last season where Smith avg 17 points and was the league leader in 3 point avg. Smith has plenty of time to right his wrongs and most Denver nuggets fans feel the same way.

I don't think the magic could get away with that trade but i think that they could get Evans for Pat straight up.

Don't trade Dooling, especially for JR Smith. If we wouldn't trade Hedo for Artest (old rumor), then we wouldn't want JR on our team either.

You cant compare Smith to Artest. JR Smith is no where as bad for the team as Artest is. Smith even has potential to become a very good player. There is no reason we shouldnt do this deal if it is true. We would be giving up very little to get much more.

I like this. The fact that Nuggets fans are really against this trade is enough for me. ;)

Seriously though, I'm all for giving JR Smith a shot. Plus, we get Evans and get rid of Garrity. Lets do it.
