Orlando Magic fans may have to pay extra to see an estimated 35 games on television this coming season unless Bright House Networks and Fox Sports Network can reach an agreement to avoid passing on the higher costs.

The issue stems from the Magic's decision to switch those games from over-the-air provider WRBW-Ch. 65 to FSN, which currently is not part of cable provider Bright House's coverage in Central Florida.

The majority of Magic games, carried on Sun Sports, will not be affected. Sun Sports and FSN are sister networks under the Fox Sports umbrella.

It will be the first time since the Magic's first season in 1989 that they won't be doing in-house production for a flagship over-the-air station. Instead they will be selling the rights to all their games to one regional provider, a trend that already includes almost half of the NBA teams.

Cathy Weeden, general manager of FSN/Sun Sports, said that negotiations with Bright House will begin soon and her hope is that the cable provider will add FSN to its general coverage.

Sara Brady, the spokesperson for Bright House, said her company could add FSN but only as part of a sports-tier package, which would require an additional fee. "We believe it belongs on a sports tier. It's the logical place for this type of programming,'' she said. "The audience that wants it will be able to see it.''

By putting it on a sports tier, according to Brady, it avoids passing on the higher cost to everyone else, many of whom don't want or need the extra sports programming.

So basically, if Brighthouse is your cable provider (like me), then at this moment you would miss out on almost half of the Magic games.

In my case, this is very, very ironic (and irritating) because I spent years up at college in Tallahassee only getting to see the Magic games that were on Sun Sports. Then, this last school year, our cable provider up there added FSN to their service. So that means now that I've graduated and come back down to the Orlando area, I might only get half the games once again, while everyone up in Tallahassee would be getting all of them. :S :S

Who all here has Brighthouse?

I have Brighthouse, but we have FSN in our Hillsborough market. I'd be pretty upset about that if I lived in Orlando, and all over a petty dispute. Can't we all just get along?

That really sucks. If you are in Orlando, there should be no reason to not get ALL Magic games. Here in NY, pretty much every Knicks game is on MSG. Same goes for the NETS on the YES Network.

Maybe you can try to get NBA League Pass. Not only would you get ALL the Magic games, but you get every other NBA game. Its great being able to watch any other game I want.

actually if you live in the Central Florida area you can't watch the magic games on NBA League Pass, they get blacked out.

Ive had Direct TV for years and its rare that the signal will go out. The trick is to have a high strength signal (98%) when you align the dish.

I have a small cable company that's included in my homeowner's association called Beyond Communication and it doesn't carry FSN, which sux!!!...but...anyways, I guess i'll bother all my friends to watch all the FSN games this season.

What pretty much sucks about this cable company is that they have the Fox Soccer Channel, but they don't freakin carry Fox Sports Net!!!

I've had DIrecTV also for a long time now and very rarely does the signal go out for me. Even with all this rain recently in NY, the signal has not gone out for me.

As for the NBA League Pass blacking out games in Central Florida like dhoward541524 mentioned, I forgot about that because sometimes Knicks and Nets games are blacked out on the Package for me, but I can get them on their regular channels.

I have both dumbhouse and defect tv. I have had both for about 5 years now. When the weather gets bad (torrential down pour) the satellite is done. Same at my bro's place (he also has both), same at my work(also direct). The bad thing about direct is they don't offer the magic in HD, but they do offer nfl sunday ticket with most HD games. With cable I seem to get espn classic, espn U, NBA tv, and i pay an extra 6 bucks a month for the HD tier package. So hopefully FSN is included in this. Even though i get it with Direct TV any way.
