Fox Sports -
The on-again, off-again deal with the Boston Celtics acquiring Kevin Garnett apparently is back on.

According to sources, the current deal on the table has the 6-foot-11 Garnett heading to Boston and the Celtics dealing away Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff's hefty expiring contract and Rajon Rondo. There may also be other players and draft picks involved.

It's not quite done, but three industry sources — including one close to the Celtics — told FOXSports.com that it's extremely close and could become official within the next 48 hours.

"It's basically done," one source said. "If it does happen, this will make the Celtics relevant again."

Celtics boss Danny Ainge attempted to trade for the Minnesota Timberwolves star forward prior to the NBA Draft, but the 31-year-old perennial All-Star had no interest in heading to Boston.

However, things may have changed now that Ainge and the Celtics pulled off the draft day deal with Seattle for Ray Allen.

KG/Allen/Pierce...wow.

That's going to be an incredible starting lineup and a dismal bench.

Man, that team would be decent for the short term, but is full of dinosaurs and will need to rebuild again in like 2 or 3 years.

Already dreading the Boston fans hopping on the bandwagon.

There's been some teams who have failed with lineups consisting of star players. All I see are a bunch of under achievers when it comes to taking their far into the playoffs.

There is going to be alot of pressure on those guys b/c if they fail now......sheesh you best belive they will be labled as underachivers for the rest of their careers.

Rocks blocking shots on guys with dreadlocks
their starting lineup will be one of the best in the east probably depending on how their pg situation shapes up but i dont see a lot of depth on the bench

that and remember their head coach is still doc rivers

^yeah but they still have to do something. These type of teams dont worry me., and if they are good its short term. Another team with a bandaid fix to keeps butts in the seats.

Wow, they just traded away their whole future for Kevin Garnett. If one of their big 3 gets hurt, their season is lost.

Definitely a short term move, which could be costly.

I'd love to see Garnett do well, but man people are jumping all over the Celtics way too prematurely. The Cavs really weren't a great team, but they did have somewhat of a decent bench. Boston currently has NO bench whatsoever. Also Boston has no post players. KG plays the 4, but plays like a 3.

I'm so glad that people are completely overlooking us right now. We will be better than the Celtics barring an injury on our end. Book it.

I have a feeling Boston is getting more hype than they deserve. They're going to definitely be a better team, but like some of you are saying, they're bench is so thin that it'll keep them from being great this year. They will be one of the better teams in the east, however.

On another note, acquiring Allen and Garnett was great from a publicity view, since now their arena will probably be selling out every night.
