A similar poll is located on the Sentinel's website, but I thought it would be interesting to see the opinions of those on this board.

What do you think and why?

For the start of the season, I voted Dooling, but give Redick a lot of reps. Hopefully by midseason JJ would get the nod. Dooling has experience, is a good defender, and can help guide JJ along. His experience with SVG is a big plus as well. For the following season, I hope JJ is solidified.

I agree with the vote in the Sentinel (over 50% of the vote): Start Redick. If he can't do it defensively, then go with Ariza or Dooling.

Thats what JJ was chosen with the 11th pick for, and he has shown he should be ready to start.

Definitely have to let Redick get his chance to start and see if he can handle it on both sides of the ball.

Drafting Marbury + Foyle = Championship. \o/
I'm a big Redick fan but I'm not sure he's starting material right now. Lets not forget that he spent most of his time last year warming the bench... it's a giant leap to take right now for him, let him grow with time. Start giving him 15+ minutes every night, if he shows good signs start giving him 22+ minutes and if he keeps improving then start him.

That said, I'm not convinced that Ariza can play the 2. IMHO, a good SG has to have a good jumper, and Ariza is very far away of getting a reliable one.

Dooling at the 2 to start the season might be the best choice right now. He is a good perimeter defender, can run the point and let Jameer be free in the attack to be a spot up shooter and he's lightning quick. He's not an elite SG nor even close that, but I think he is our best choice right now.

And then there's Hedo. Inconsistent as hell... but still the guy with the best tools in the roster to be a SG (other than Redick who is the pure definition of an old-school shooter). He's not a bad defender, can slash, can shoot lights out. He'd be an amazing player if it wasn't for his ups and downs. If SVG can make him a consistent guy (something no other coach has done so far in his career), he'd be my number 1 choice.

Oh, and Bogans... well, Bogans is a serviceable guy, a hustle defender, but not starting material.

Why would Dooling and JJ deserve to start over Hedo? Dooling is too small and inconsistant, and JJ hasnt proven anything, yeah he's worked hard this off season, but doesn't mean it will translate on the court so much to legitimately say that he's a starter. I say it goes to whoever proves to be the est player at the position.

But I still think Hedo does more than any of those two on the court. He avgs the same numbers as our starting PG. 14 4rb and 4ast why would we not start him next to Lewis at 6,10. Everyone talks about how Dwight can stop a guy driving to the hole so we really don't have to worry about perimeter defense. At least that was the excuse for Jameer, how is it okay for him to be a mediocore defender but not Hedo?? As a team I think we play good enough defense to start Hedo and Lewis next to each other.

I think we should give JJ a chance to start. I know that the team would be defensively-challenged on the backcourt position with him and Nelson but it would be sort of like the Warriors. It would be fun to watch.

My second option is Ariza. If he ever develops a consistent, the job should be his.

I think Dooling and Hedo will be good coming from the bench. Let's not forget that one of the more consistent seasons that Hedo had was when he was coming off the bench. I like Dooling better at the PG position. Bogans is not just starter material.

I voted for JJ - he should start - last year was wasted - he needs to show what he can do, use him as a spot up shooter, or pick and rolls, just basic ball.
We knew he was going to have trouble defending but that's not what he was picked for, he was picked for his shooting, and the guy can shoot, so use him that way!

I'll tell you J.J. was the Man in college & Turk was rarely a starter with any teams he was on in the past but hopefully SVG puts Turk at PF at the start of the season, otherwise it hurts Shards all of his numbers. From twos & 3s

Dooling will only start if SVG is looking for Defense at the time in the game.I don't believe Dooling has proved himself as a Clear cut shooter yet & if he wants PT & the starter position he needs to prove that to the coach. Otherwise I saw go with Reddick.I understand Reddick is not the best defensive guy on the team. But he can shoot. So the question is what do you need at the moment SVG??
