The Orlando Magic' Dwight Howard will be one of six players who are expected to report this weekend for the second year in a row to a U.S. national basketball team minicamp in Las Vegas.

The roster must be trimmed to 12 players before the tournament starts on Aug. 22 at the Thomas & Mack Cemter in Las Vegas. The tournament itself will continue through Sept. 2, and the top two teams in the FIBA Americas tournament will advance to the Olympic Games.

Bryant, the league's scoring champion, had knee surgery last summer and was unable to play in the FIBA World Championships, where the Americans finished third. Howard, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Shane Battier and Kirk Hinrich are the only players from that team scheduled to take part this weekend.

They will be joined by Chauncey Billups, Amare Stoudemire and Michael Redd, all members of the program last summer but unable to participate. Kevin Durant, Jason Kidd, Mike Miller, Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince, J.J. Redick and Deron Williams also willl attend.

The Americans will train for two days before dividing up the roster for a blue-white game on Sunday.

Rocks blocking shots on guys with dreadlocks
bad news, quit the team and get better at your games guys

dwight isnt gonna learn any new offensive post moves while being garbage man on team usa, its really holding him back

im willing to bet dwight would have scored 20 ppg last year if he had an entire offseason to completely dedicate to his game

Drafting Marbury + Foyle = Championship. \o/
?
Dwight's footwork was vastly improved when last season started and the reason it happened was the training he got under coach k (even Dwight admitted it). Besides that he and JJ have the chance to learn some tricks with some of the most experienced stars in the league.
Nothing but good comes from this.

Nothing but good comes from this.

Unless one or both of them gets injured in the process. That would be a very bad thing.
