No it doesn't, but you were using borderline All Star as a knock against him. If he played for a team in the East he would be a perennial All Star. |

Glad to see he's staying with a bad team. I thought he might have opted to go to a team that he might have been a missing piece for. At least we don't have to worry about that now. |

Not necessarily. But even if he was/is, is it justifiable to give him one of the highest paying contracts in the league just because he can dominate in a weaker conference? The amount of money we just signed him to should be reserved for players who can dominate both conferences. There's no guarantee that he will be an all-star starter in the East. |

Based on simply on the court issues, he is not worth the money. But that's what it took to get the best FA available on our team. Would you have been happier if we had spent no money and had no new additions? We basically traded Grant Hill and Darko for Lewis and I think we got a steal. If we win the East in two years nobody is going to be saying, "Well he's still not worth that contract". None of those other big names were available and there's no guarantee that would ever be available to us in the foreseeable future. It's almost like you think we should have turned him down because he wasn't worth that much money. Listen, we had the cap space, we had the money, we got the guy. I don't see what the problem is. If he turns out to be a bust, then oh well. It's happened before and we were still one win away from putting out a number 1 seed in the playoffs. But he's worth the risk. |

I think you could argue that Wallace was the best available, at least in terms of flexibility. Wallace isn't as good as Lewis, no, but he's younger and more versatile. Also, his lower asking price would have made it easier to keep Darko. |

As opposed to the current situation...probably. I'm torn between excitement and shock right now because I am excited about next season, but in doubt about future cap problems. I am not against Lewis. He is a very good player and a welcome addition to the team. This isn't about him, it's about the fact that no matter how you slice it and dice it, Otis Smith just signed a non-franchise, second option player to one of the biggest contracts in the NBA. That's what I'm angry about. Our capspace is squeezed dry and unless Otis is making any more moves, the Magic have to hope Lewis takes us deep in the playoffs every year (and hopefully wins a championship), because it will be near impossible to trade him and/or get much additional help. That's what I'm unhappy about. Again, this is not about Lewis. This is about taking a huge, huge gamble on a player who isn't one of the best players in the league. Billups and Carter's contracts COMBINED don't even add up to Lewis' new contract. Whether or not Lewis enjoys a great career here, the bottom line is that right now, at this moment, he is being grossly overpaid. What is our franchise cornerstone, Dwight Howard, going to now be thinking when his contract negotiations come up? |

I'm sorry but: Lewis > Wallace and Darko At least Lewis put up those numbers with Ray Allen on his team, Wallace was really the only option Charlotte had for years and now they are getting some talent to take the load off. I wish we could have kept Darko too, but we would have had to pay more than Magic fans would have liked so basically we were screwed either way. |

This organization is willing to do whatever it takes to put themselves in the best position to win. We just signed the top player available and we got the top two head coaching candidates to sign with us (unfortunately we only kept one of them, but that's beside the point). I think Dwight will be more than happy with his extension if we win. |

I heard on Local 6 News at 6 that Lewis was paid in the neighborhood of 118. something low number but they talked like the Magic planned on Paying D12 $85 Mil for 5 or 6 seasons tomorrow. Who else can they sign if they are throwing this kind of Cash at 2 Magic Players??? |

They can sign guys with their mid-level exception, but that's about it. Good luck with that. ![]()
I think I would have preferred the cap flexibility and player versatility to scoring, but okay. |

This is what I'm wondering. We have those expiring contracts still in Garrity, Dooling, and Arroyo so does anyone know about how much we can spend next offseason? |

Well, with Wallace, we wouldn't have had any cap room next year anyway. But take a look at who will be available next summer:

I thought the whole idea of doing the S&T with the Sonics was to unload some of out contracts? Otis did it just to pay more money?!? WTF! Like most of you guys, I love it that we got Rashard, but man, $120M? I am still in shock and I'm trying to figure out why this S&T was allowed. The salaries won't match. Did I miss something? |
