There's no guarantee of this. I'm excited that we signed Lewis, but the fact that we just gave a border-line all-star one of the biggest contracts in the league is unbelievable. If Otis has something else up his sleeve, then great. But what exactly can he do to "fix" the problem of Lewis' now cap-crippling contract? I'm staying positive, but I'm still in shock that the already bloated 5yr/75mil contract has now climbed well over $100 million. |

No kidding. Nowadays in the NBA you have to overpay. We got the best Free Agent available in this class, I really don't care how much we paid for him. If he can put up similar numbers to what he did for the Sonics, we are contenders in the East NOW. Remember the freaking Cavs won it this year. He doesn't have to be T-Mac for us to win though. We've already got Dwight, our best player. If he can be like a Penny Hardaway, we'll be in excellent shape. |

Borderline All Star in the Western Conference. Again if he plays like he did in Seattle, he'll be an All Star every year in the East. |

Thank you! We are much better off than many are saying. Yes we spent alot but you have to if you think your gonna land the players you want. So many flip out before even knowing the specifics of why he did the deal or what other moves are coming. Lets just wait it out because we are not in on the talks between the players and teams. Either way we got what we wanted, even though we dont know the numbers, obviously its within reason because if not then Otis wouldnt do it, because he would be out of a job. He can get fired too so its not like hes trying to blow up this franchise. We now have a great core that can go real far in the East. We dont have as tough competition as the West, and many guys think we are worse off than we really are. We are a great defensive team. JJ, Nelson, and Lewis are not as bad defensively as some are saying. |

Another great point. Its much easier to get into the playoffs and the ASG in the East. Hes a star, who is now getting paid like one. Hes gonna produce numbers and get his first trip to the ASG in the Eastern conference. The West is much tougher so him coming over here will benefit Rashard and the Magic. |

That's a grip of money we're paying him. WOW! I hope he's worth it. |

Being a star in a weak conference still doesn't justify being paid over $120 million. |

Well, we wont know till he produces on the court. Either way, we had to pay big bucks to take our team to the next level. If we wanted the #1 FA then we had to dish out the cash. We got what everyone wanted, for more money than we expected, but its done and over. |

I'm more disappointed that we weren't able to get an Earl Watson in the deal, nor were we able to free up space to try and sign a FA big. Of course, I would have still made the deal to see Shard in a Magic uniform. I look at it kind of like this: This team hasn't had a real All-Star combination since Shaq and Penny left. We've had to toil with teams led by Nick Anderson (a favorite of mine, but never should have been forced into the Star role), Tracy McGrady (definitely a favorite, but no one around to really help), Steve Francis (don't get me started), and then Dwight Howard. Now we have a chance to have a real tandem in Shard and Dwight. If Otis is able to sign Jameer to an extension, and Jameer starts to finally make the jump to what we know he is capable of, then we have our three key starters. Having Battie and Redick/Ariza/Dooling/pick yo SG covering the other starting spots will basically give us our role players....Battie being the rebounder, and the SGs either being perimeter threats or defensive stoppers. Let's face it: We can't go around being all pessimistic, because the fact is, we really don't know which way it's going to go down. I personally think we'll be a MUCH better offensive team, and maybe not quite as good on defense. I think we'll be a better team right now. |

Tmac was 20/21 years old when we signed him to his big one. This guy is 28. So basically this is our man. I think we should be alright. No injury issues, except for the hand deal. lucky guy. |

i think everyone has a right to be pissed, sure you have to overpay to get players and guys like larry hughes for overpaid but their contracts were 12 mill per season, there is no reason to justify us paying rashard lewis money that is only seen by the likes of Duncan, KG, Kobe etc... he isnt even close to that, 75million was one thing but 120 million i think its pretty sad that Otis tried to play all this hardball s**t with darko but he pulled down his pants and bent over for rashard and his agent because they were bulls**tting about teams readily offering a six yr deal to him god otis you are so F**king stupid, way to ruin the franchise for another half a decade |

MAGIC ACQUIRE RASHARD LEWIS IN A SIGN-AND-TRADE DEAL WITH SEATTLE Former NBA All-Star forward brings scoring prowess to Orlando July 11, 2007 Press Conference Transcript Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have acquired forward Rashard Lewis from the Seattle SuperSonics in a sign-and-trade deal in exchange for a future conditional second round draft pick, General Manager Otis Smith announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed. “Rashard (Lewis) is a young, athletic forward and a proven scorer in this league,” said Smith. “We feel his skills will be a tremendous addition to our team and we are very excited to have him join the Magic family.” Lewis (6’10”, 230, 8/8/79) played in 60 games last season with Seattle, averaging a career-high 22.4 ppg., 6.6 rpg., 2.4 apg. and 1.13 stlpg. in 39.1 minpg. He ranked 11th in the NBA in minutes played, 27th in free throw percentage (.841) and tied for 27th in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 151-of-387 (.390) from beyond the arc. Lewis scored in double figures a team-high-tying 57 times, including 41 games of 20-plus points and 30-or-more points eight times. He led (or tied) the Sonics in scoring 25 times, including a season-best 36 points on Dec. 18 @ Memphis, in rebounding 17 times and in assists four times. Lewis recorded 13 double-doubles. He missed 22 games (Dec. 23-Feb. 7) due to an injury to the tendon sheath on the back of his right hand. Lewis has played in 617 career NBA regular season games, all with Seattle, averaging 16.6 ppg., 5.8 rpg., 1.7 apg. and 1.15 stlpg. in 33.9 minpg. He has also appeared in 16 career playoff games, averaging 15.6 ppg., 5.3 rpg. and 1.1 apg. in 34.3 minpg. Lewis has averaged at least 20 points per game in three straight seasons and was an NBA All-Star in 2005. He poured in a career-high 50 points on Oct. 31, 2003 vs. L.A. Clippers (in Japan), which is the fifth-highest single-game point total in team history. Originally selected by Seattle during the second round (32nd overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft, Lewis ranks among the all-time leaders in the SuperSonics’ 40-year history. He stands first in three-point field goals made (973), second in three-point field goals attempted (2,519), fourth in points (10,251) and minutes played (20,921), and sixth in rebounds (3,595), blocked shots (362) and games played (617). I can't believe all we sent to Seattle was a future second round pick. I don't like this deal at all. We should've just gotten him for 5 years instead. |

Very true that Magic GM Otis Smith probley won't have capspace for awhile but conider we still have to resign Dight Howard & Jammer Nelson! UGH That's really going to leave us left out but we will be a better team overall I think.I mean with SVGS Defensive Skeems and Players he has the Front Office signing but for SO Much???
