Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have acquired forward Rashard Lewis from the Seattle SuperSonics in a sign-and-trade deal in exchange for a future conditional second round draft pick, General Manager Otis Smith announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

“Rashard (Lewis) is a young, athletic forward and a proven scorer in this league,” said Smith. “We feel his skills will be a tremendous addition to our team and we are very excited to have him join the Magic family.”

Lewis (6’10”, 230, 8/8/79) played in 60 games last season with Seattle, averaging a career-high 22.4 ppg., 6.6 rpg., 2.4 apg. and 1.13 stlpg. in 39.1 minpg. He ranked 11th in the NBA in minutes played, 27th in free throw percentage (.841) and tied for 27th in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 151-of-387 (.390) from beyond the arc. Lewis scored in double figures a team-high-tying 57 times, including 41 games of 20-plus points and 30-or-more points eight times. He led (or tied) the Sonics in scoring 25 times, including a season-best 36 points on Dec. 18 @ Memphis, in rebounding 17 times and in assists four times. Lewis recorded 13 double-doubles. He missed 22 games (Dec. 23-Feb. 7) due to an injury to the tendon sheath on the back of his right hand.

Wow, i never thought this would happen before Wednesday came around. I cant wait to see if any players were involved. But this is good news either way, so now we can maybe keep Darko.

But he is getting an insane amount of money so he better live up to it. And we gave up a 2nd rounder for what? Just to pay him more? No way, there must be more to this that we dont know yet.

wow, why are we dropping down 120 mill now, seeing that we lost darko out of this if rashard isnt dropping near 30 pts a game then we definitely overpaid

Trying to wrap my my head around whether a deal could actually happen that would just be a 2nd rounder for Rashard and a 6th year. It would definitely be at a detriment to the Magic so I'm hoping more comes out.

yeah i thought in a S&T you have to have the salaries match up w/in a certain percentage of each other and a 2nd rounder and lewis's reported salary are far from matching

otis is going to make or break us for the foreseeable future this summer w/ dwight getting his extension and lewis with this reported phantom contract he is getting we wont be having cap space for a while

Aside from the second round I wonder who else did we give up? $120M, wow!

I am really hoping we did not sign Alan Houston 2.0.

The salaries have to match up within 25% I THINK. If 'Shard is making $20 million, so if I'm right, the Magic need to ship out $15 million in salary. Arroyo, Dooling, and Garrity add up to $10 million. Turk would add another $5 million, so might that be the deal? I don't know.

if thats true then way to go otis overpay rashard like a mofo and end up trading hedo away in this deal when we could of used him to get a big man in a trade <_<

If we could free up $15M. Would that mean we could sign another FA?

We definitely have a new look team next season.

Yeah this obviously doesnt match up, meaning all the pieces to this deal are not released yet. There could be a 3 team deal, many players going to or from teams, so lets not panic yet.

Good point. There might be another team involved.

If there is no more to this deal this will really set back the magic for years to come.
