A roughly translated article from primerahora.com (a Puerto Rican newspaper) link: http://www.primerahora.com/noticia/balonce...temporada/86065 "Carlos Arroyo: Optimistic About the Magic for the Next Season" Friday July 6, 2007 (6:09 p.m.) A new season, a new begining. At least, that is what Carlos Arroyo hopes for when the new 2007-2008 NBA season starts with a new coach, Stan Van Gundy, and with several high-caliber acquisitions by the Orlando Magic team. "I met with Van Gundy in Miami, since both of us live there. We talked for some time since he already knew me and has seen me play. He knew what I went through last season and that relieves me a lot", said Arroyo who will once again fight Jameer Nelson for the team's PG starting position during the preseason in October, now that former coach Brian Hill is out of the way. "I really want to start practicing and show him (SVG) what I can do for the team. I am ready for the challenge. I will work hard to earn my minutes." In addition to Van Gundy, the Magic recruited the most desired free agent of the dead season, forward Rashard Lewis, a 6'10" sharpshooter who belonged to the Seattle Supersonics and who averaged 22.4 points and 6.6 rebounds, and who additionally shot 39% from three point range. "Rashard Lewis is an impact player, a consistent scorer whom we did not have in the team and who will help us a lot. But that is not the only move that Orlando will make. There is another 'horse' (meaning great player) who is coming to the Magic", indicated Arroyo, regarding the rumor that Orlando is about to aquire Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings by trading Turkish forward Hydayet 'Hedo' Turkoglu. "Artest is a tremendous player and a proven veteran. He will strenghten our frontcourt." With Lewis as the strongest offensive player alongside the tough and defensive-minded Artest and the prominent center Dwight Howard, Orlando could have one of the best frontcourts in the league. But, what will happen with the backcourt after Grant Hill signed with the Phoenix Suns? "I think that J.J. Redick is ready for the challenge (to start at SG). That guy is an incredible scorer. He makes every shot he shoots at the basket, and he is the individual who practices the hardest. I think he is going to have a great year", added Arroyo |

I thought Otis squelched the Artest rumor. Let's hope Arroyo is just misinformed.

Also, the link you pasted doesn't work. The board abbreviated the URL with periods. ![]() EDIT: Clicking this link should take you to the story. It indeed appears as though Arroyo knows something we don't about Artest. ![]() EDIT again: After talking about Rashard Lewis, Arroyo says something to the effect of "but he is not the only player the Magic will sign." He also says Artest is "a good player and a proven veteran." |

I know he's got a lot of off the court baggage and probably isn't worth the risk, but if we added Artest to this team, we would have our defensive stopper and would be contenders THIS year. But he's a crapshoot. If Hedo could just be more consistent he could be a great player for us, but he's just too up and down. |

I just updated 3QC with this news. Here's how I was able to translate the best part of the article:
If there is anyone here fluent in Spanish, I welcome your assistance in clearing up exactly what Arroyo said. |

Arroyo is cool, but I'm wondering how serious he is about the hint made at Artest. |

In Puerto Rico, the word "caballo" or "horse" is used to describe someone that is really good at something. So when Arroyo said that, he was pretty much using Puerto Rican slang. |

It seems strange that he would be so forward about Ron Artest. As far as I can tell, there has been no confrimation that Artest will be here next year, but Arroyo talks about it like its a done deal. It's nice to here, again, that JJ is the hardest working player on this team. I love his attitude and think he is going to be much improved next year. Good interview from Arroyo, I hope he does really well next year. |

I'm glad Carlos is excited about this team....but I doubt he really has inside information on trades. He was probably asked "how it would be if Artest came" and answered as such. |

I dont know why everyone is so scared of Artest. This organization needs to grow a pair and take risks. We'll never get anywhere if we scamper along with the soft players we have in this lineup. We need to get a guy that is going to make a difference on the defensive end, who isnt scared to guard the best payers in the league. Jameer Artest Lewis Dwight Whoever Is a sick line up. Artest would counter the lack of defense we have at the 2. It would add to our versatility. You could mix that lineup up and slide Lewis to the 4 and artest to the 3 with JJ playing the 2 at time. This team needs to take a risk with this guy. I say they need to pull the trigger if this deal is true. It would bring excitment to this team, and make us an instant contender. |

Other teams have "grown a set" and things have gone disastrous. Also consider the youth on this team. Not the best idea to bring in a career nutjob like Artest to mix up the works. The lineup is good, but Ariza isn't that far behind Artest in defensive ability. I'd rather see this team go a different way. |
