I was hoping for something in the 60s or 70s.

Historically, the Magic have never issued a uniform number higher than 55, which leads me to believe they use the NCAA's policy when it comes to numbers.

Kasun might pick up #69.

Sorry. :S

  That is about right with Super Mario!

Stern wouldn't let him do that. A few years ago, Ron Artest requested no. 69 with the Pacers, and the league put the kibosh on that pretty quickly. It's a shame, too; you know it'd be among the league's top sellers.

When the Orlando Magic open play in their own Pepsi Pro Summer League next week, their only draft pick from this season will be playing, according to the team.

Milovan Rakovic , a 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward from Serbia-Montenegro, will join last year's draft picks -- shooting guard J.J. Redick and forward James Augustine -- on the Magic's summer-league roster for the games July 9-13. Marcin Gortat, a center/power power forward whose draft rights were acquired by the Magic during the 2005 draft, also is expected to play.

Although Redick already has played in regular-season NBA games, these will mark his first summer-league games because he was injured last summer and could not take part.

It'll be nice to see what Milovan can do. I doubt he makes the team, though.

According to the Sentinel this morning, Rakovic won't be participating due to injury. SVG is also reported as saying he doesn't care how JJ plays offensively, since he knows the potential is there...he'd rather see JJ defend well.

"I've told J.J. I'm not interested in what his numbers are. If he averages 30 points, it won't change my opinion of him. Same if he averages four points and shoots 15 percent," Van Gundy said Sunday after practice. "I want to see him make progress as the week goes on in terms of his defensive mentality. I want to see how he responds to the challenge of defense."

Power forward Milovan Rakovic, the Magic's 2007 second-round pick from Serbia, is unlikely to play after he sustained a hip injury Wednesday during a workout at RDV Sportsplex the day before regular practices began.

The team, composed mostly of young free agents, has been practicing together since Thursday. Rakovic has participated only in the lighter, non-contact parts of the practices.

I was looking forward to watching Rakovic. Oops. :/
Nice that he's going to give Augustine a chance -- something that Brian Hill didn't really do. It wouldn't surprise me if he really stormed the summer league; he averaged a double-double (right?) when he was in the D-league, so the talent is there.

Redick finished with 26 points. He had 16 in the first half. Gortat had 10 rebounds. Not sure about Augustine. We won by 11. 85-74

Actually, Redick had 30 pts and Gortat had 12 rebounds and 6 assists. To be honest, I didn't watch too much of the game to give an accurate evaluation. When I was watching, I was basically just watching Gortat. He looks active and he fights for offensive rebounds. He travels a bit, but he makes some nice moves.

I watched abouut a third of the game, and JJ looked spectacular. His offense was, as expected, stellar. His defense looked really good. I mean, theres nothing he can do about his size, but he was very active and very persistent on the defensive end.

A good start to the summer league, I'd say.

It was encouraging. Nice to see Kevin Kruger contribute. If Carlos and Keyon get traded to Seattle, and Travis Diener leaves via free-agency, Kruger could serve as the no. 3 point guard behind Jameer Nelson and Travis Diener.
