I couldn't tell you all the ramifications of extending a qualifying offer, but I'm pretty sure that regardless of it's purpose, it has since been rescinded.

I think it just means that we've put our low-ball offer on the table, which keeps Milicic as a restricted free agent. After that initial offer, we have the right to match any other offers. If you don't make an initial offer, or you take it off the table (as we did), you lose your matching right and the player becomes an unrestricted free agent. Or something like that.

Then if you are right, we HAVE contacted Darko. So Cornstein should quit his yapping.

Haha... I guess.

I'm pretty sure we could have made the offer and taken it back without ever having called Darko or his agent, though.

Eh, screw this loser. He never showed much commitment to this team long-term anyway, let some other team give this guy a ton of money that he doesn't deserve.

Rashard Lewis is God.

Darko is this year Deshawn Stevenson. He wants a big contract that he have not earned. Deshawn Stevenson's agent was making the same comments about there alot of teams interested in him. Once the Magic pulled their final offer, Deshawn was forced to signed for the league min. Now Darko's agent is doing the same thing, since Otis pulled his offer, those 25 teams have disappeared and he will be lucky to secure a mid level ex.

I like how Otis handles business, if you think you are worth more than what we offer, go test the market then, btw our offer is off the table.

I think, looking at the teams out there, Darko's best shot is to stay in Orlando. He could take the MLE in, say... Dallas. But how much burn would he get? Not a lot. With Orlando, he'd get playing time. But since Cornstein is playing the disrespect card, looks like that won't happen.

This whole outcry by Darko's agent is rather childish. Falcon, you took the words right out of my mouth when you said it was Deshawn Stevenson part II.

I still think we have a chance to get him despite his agent because money talks in the NBA. I am hoping things run smooth with that sign and trade because if they do we could get Gerald Wallace and maybe another player.

AND we still have Grant Hill who we could do a sign and trade with for maybe Kurt Thomas (just me speculating). This stuff is just beginning. Exciting, ain't it?

I think this would be a MUCH, much bigger deal with Darko if we didn't land Rashard Lewis.

S---, are you kidding me? You want to talk about decimating the organization. As if Billy Donovan weren't enough, right? Wow. Yeah. :/
'Shard's here, though. That's good.

Speaking of that loser Donovan, looks like we can attract big time FA's without him. :D

We must keep Darko, if we don't keep darko i think that signing lewis to that big contact was a mistake. Don't get me wrong i liked the fact that we signed lewis he filled a need but I don't think it should be at the cost of Darko. I wanted a Dwight, Lewis, and Darko team i think that team would have went far in the east because i think that Dwight and Darko would become something great with lewis on the perimemter. But a Lewis and Dwight team does not make this team a great team.

If we are trying to make this team a 2 men team with lewis and Dwight it is a huge mistake. Usually when you build a 2 men squad you want two superstars, and at this point the magic only have one potienal superstar in Dwight and one who is and always will be a secondary star in Lewis. Seriously if the magic wanted to put a superstar next to Dwight, lewis was not the one. Look at the houston rockets they are having an hard time winning with their 2 superstars, how much would a magic team acclisoh with a potienal superstar and a half?

In my opinion if we keep Darko and team him up with Dwight and lewis this team will go far. I have seen the flashes of what Darko and Dwight could do in the post together and you add a good perimeter player like Lewis it would be deadly, a great 3 headed monster.

The magic have to some how keep their 3 young players of Ariza, Darko, and Nelson together because the future max contacts of Lewis and Dwight will hand cuff the magic from further f/a signings and the only other why to improve is from within.

If i had to pick between Darko or Lewis, i would have picked Darko. This is for the simiple reason that i think Darko and Dwight could be great, make it easier to retain Ariza and Nelson, and the fact that off guards are a dime a dozen. I would have loved to have both Darko and Lewis but with the recent reports it seems slim but i hope i am wrong.

I'm not sure I really like us to keep Darko now. If he doesn't want to be in Orlando then let him go. It's just that how this has blown over is not good PR. Otis should have called him or his agent - offer them a token contract or something, if they don't agree then it's out of Otis' hands. But the non-call was just surprising - what was Otis strategy?

One thing is sure though, just landing Rashard is not enough. We need help on the frontcourt.  So we still need to free up space to fill those position.

They made him a qualifying offer. I'm not sure what that means, exactly (someone enlighten me, I don't mind being clueless from time to time), but it should mean something. This "agent" should understand how business works. Not calling Darko is one way to see what his market value is. If they don't come back with offers, maybe no one's biting the $10 million dollar bait. <_<

I am writing this one of the top of my head. As I wrote earlier by making a qualifying offer to Darko (or any other restricted FA on your roster) you keep the right of first refusal. When the Magic withdrawl that offer, Darko becomes unrestricted and the Magic have no claim on him.

If I remember correctly, a "qualifying" offer is is the last years salary + a percentage. This does not effect the amount of the cap hold on the player, just keeps your rights of first refusal if he were to sign an offer sheet with another team.

I wanted to keep Darko, too. But this is where we have to be honest with ourselves: if these reports of Darko wanting to be in a situation where an offense is run through him are true, then would he have really been happy here? I haven't seen a tremendous improvement in his offensive game over the course of the past season and a half. He is a very good interior defender....that's the only area where I will miss him.

But we don't need an ego situation from a role player. If this was Dwight, or Jameer, or even TURK, I might be able to swallow it. Not from Darko's camp. Not from a guy that owes Orlando everything for giving him the shot that the Pistons were never going to give him. If this is his agent (I'm holding out hope that it is and that Darko can fire the dude before the bridges are ashes), then that's one thing. But if it's Darko....well, if it is, let him go somewhere else and realize no one is going to build an organization around him.

You also mentioned "two superstars" not working in Houston. Luckily, Orlando is in the East. You CAN win over here with that.

You beat me too it :D

If the Rockets played in the East, they would be in the finals every year. Heck, if they could just stay healthy, they could find themselves at the top of hte West each year as well.

Perhaps there was more behind the Magic-Cornstein relationship. He represented Fran Vazquez, whom the Magic selected No. 11 in the 2005 draft, but remained in Spain.
The agent represents Vasquez
