Man, I'm just happy as hell about this. We didn't wait around forever in trying to tackle a top-tier FA, like how it took us forever to can Brian Hill. I'm positive that Otis has been blessed by the Gods above.

Obviously, I would love to see a sign and trade that would allow us to keep Darko. But, who would we give them? Assuming the only player they trade to us is Lewis, who could we give them?

Jerry O'Neill of 740 the Team suggested the following trade on the radio this afternoon:

Seattle receives Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, and Pat Garrity
Orlando receives Rashard Lewis and Earl Watson

Seattle gets valuable expiring contracts, Rashard gets the biggest deal possible, and the Magic get under the cap enough to re-sign Darko.

I doubt the Sonics would ever do that, though.

I would be freakin' thrilled if that trade went through. But somehow, I can't see Seattle getting too excited over that deal.

If Seattle takes it, God bless them.

I wonder if there is anyway in which we can do a three team deal and some how get rid of Turkoglu.

That would be ideal.

Turk probably will be included in the deal due to both teams having to match salaries to complete the trade.

I know the salaries have to match, but Seattle just aquired Durant, Green, and Szczerbiak, who all play the same position. I really doubt they'd want to pick up another small forward.

Yeah, well Wally's always on the inactive list anyway. But I see your point.

Perhaps I can offer the reason why the Magic had to renounce the rights to Darko. As a restricted Free Agent, Darko (who earned 5.2 million last year) becomes a "cap hold" to the Magic. since they have (or had) the right if first refusal, the Magic had to hold onto cap space to match any offer. In Darko's case that "hold" amouts to three times his 2007 salary (or in this case over 15 million).

This puts the Magic in a tough spot, you know Darko will not get 15 million, but the Magic had to wait until he signed an offer sheet to decide if they wanted to match. In the meantime they have no real cap space to intice ANYONE. I saw this coming weeks ago, unless the Magic could shed salary before July 1 (and there was no way that they could shed enough to be any kind of factor in the bidding for top notch free agents) Darko was going to have to be let go.

Give me Lewis over Darko anytime if I have to choose, and that is what the Magic had to do. By renouncing Darko you have no "first refusal" rights and the only way Darko comes back is if that is what he wants to do and waits to see if the Magic have the money to make it possible. I suspect Darko's (or Darko's agent) "feelings" are hurt, and the line will be that Darko "wants to go where he is wanted".

I will be very surprised to see Darko in a Magic uniform. And I think Otis and the Magic brass did what they had to do.

I don't know the accuracy of your financial breakdown (but I'll say OK anyway), but I agree with the assessment, Brutal. That said, we need to quickly scan for some PF depth in either FA or in a S&T.

And I love the sound of that trade...Earl Watson has a selfless style of play that is refreshing on ANY team.

No computer for one frickin day and look what i miss

Many reports i have seen point to a deal being done but they "cant tell" until July 11 due to the rules. But if we have to lose Darko to get Rashard, then i say im all for it. We can replace Darkos spot, but we really need a scorer like Rashard to go far.

No, Turk is completely expendable. Trevor Ariza is Lewis' backup.
