This wasnt the playoff series we expected but at least the guys got the experience. The Magic get to sit and watch the playoffs from home, a little bit earlier than they probably expected... But...There are many changes that are going to happen. Many questions to be answered. Here we can chat about who we want to get, what should happen, and who should stay and go.

We will have to wait and see:
1. If Grant is coming back
2. Dwight has his $120 million dollar summer
3. What happens with Jameer
4. What we do in the draft and FA
5. What happens with Coach Hill
6. The Arena talk
7. If we resign Garrity to a 7 year max extension deal...
8. etc.

1. I really hope Grant doesn't come back. He needs to retire and not risk any more long term trouble.

2. No doubt Dwight will get his money

3. No way Jameer gets an extension

4. We draft a 2nd rounder that won't make the team and we had better re-sign Darko and to a lesser extent (not much though) Dooling

5. Unfortunately we will have no new coach or coaching philosophy

6. Hopefully the whiners in Orlando will just shut up and the construction can begin on the arena

7. Garrity will be on the roster next year

1. If we could get him for cheap..then why not?
2. Yeah your right he will, there is NO way we dont sign him for the max.
3. I think its a possibility but we will have to wait to see what happens in the FA. I think Jameer will be back, but he might not be starting. I dont want to say for sure because we all know that nothing happens the way you expect it with this team.
4. We have 3 2nd round picks. And they actually should make the team, if they are good enough. Because there is a ton of talent in both rounds and we can get a good player even in the 2nd.
5. I dont anticipate a new coach or style in the near future either.
6. We will get a new arena. I read that the city is about to approve it or whatever.
7. Yeah i think our water boy will be back next season. He gets paid millions to sit courtside.

Oh I think Nelson will be back, but I don't think he'll get an automatic extension. Maybe if the price is right.

Me thinking Hill should retire is for him, not us. But I also think that it could help develop Ariza if he got more PT.

I didn't know we had that many 2nd round picks. Maybe we can deal some of them for a Steve Blake type of PG (When I watch Denver play I really wish we had him)

1. I do think Grant is coming back, I think he he knows that he owes the Magic for the 5 years he didn't help the Magic, and all the broken dreams we had with McGrady that didn't happen. So yeah, I think he will be back

2. Of course we give him the money. If we don't he will go somewhere else like shaq did. Then he will win 3 titles with the other team. Don't make the same mistake twice.

3. Jameer should be the back-up. I don't like the idea, but thats what I think should happen. he isn't big enough to handle the Chauncey Billups and the Deron Williams of the worlds. He isn't a pass first point gaurd. Which dosen't help this team at all.

4. We will try to get somewhere in the top 10 in the draft. FA, I think we just stick to resigning Dwight, Darko, and Nelson. need Darko so much, I don't think we should waste any of money on players that will only be here for 3 years. Instead of keeping Darko who will be here for like 12-15 seasons.

5. Hill I think will finaly get fired. Charlile would probably be the coach we go after. He has proved that he can win with less talent on a team. Example: 2004-2005 Pacers. with a team that has talent like this. He would help them out alot.

6. I think they are going to get a new arena. The town has no other professional sports expect the NBA. If they don't get the Arena. This would be a major blow to town in not having a home team. So yes, they will do it.

7. Garrity will be definately be signed to the max deal. Are you crazy? He is if not the best, but one of the best waterboy in the league. his water passing ability is just incredible. Forget Dwight getting a shoe deal, he should have a shoe deal. His sandles would sell alot for Nike ;)

Summer Shocker on the Horizon

Changes might have to come if the Magic want Dwight to sign an extension. I heard this from a very very reliable source. Dwight and his agent have been so disappointed this season with Dwights lack of involvement and development in the offense there could be a lot of manuvering if the Magic want him to sign an extension this summer. You could actually trace his disappointments back all the way to when Brian Hill fired Clifford Ray.

The frustration boiled over after game 3. Dwight was asked by Sentinel writer Brian Schmitz about his lack of field goal attemtps and he replied, "I have my opinion on that and I'll wait until the end of the season to express it,". If you think his extension this summer is a slam dunk you might want to get your sight checked. Both Dwight and his agent are sensitive to what has happened in Orlando in the past in regards to Coach Brian Hill that is why publicly you will not here any players, especially Dwight calling out Hill or the coaching staff. There will not be a player revolt like there was in the past, but what could very well happen is Dwight just refuse to sign an extension. At best I am hearing he has gone from thinking he would sign a maximum extention to the thought he would sign a LeBron type extension, which would effectively put the Magic on HIS TIMETABLE and on notice.

It is quite understandable if you are Dwight or his agent. You do not go from being promised that Dwight will be the focal point of the offense to having Dwight get less field goal attempts than his previous year. There is really no excuse. You can blame his turnovers all you want, but I should not have to remind Magic fans Shaq averaged just as many his rookie year. The sad part is to get Shaq to develop and be ready his second year, he received over 1300 field goal attempts, which is more than 400 more than Dwight revceived this season. Shaq also had the defensively challenged Dennis Scott on the floor at all times to help with spacing. We have JJ but Dwight and JJ never play together.

If you think he is the only player and agent upset about the coaching staff, read between the lines on what Darko's agent is telling any media representative that will listen. He is letting it be known money is not the motivating factor for Darko. What will sway Darko to sign a contract is how he will be used in the offense. Anything short of Darko not being a starter will not cut it. Becuase of Brian Hill's arogance and lack of annoiting Darko the starter already, it could force Darko and his agent in to signing a one year deal and become a unrestricted free agent.

What I am hearing is that words from Otis will not go very far this summer when it comes negoiation time. Otis can say all he wants and promise all he wants, but the agents know now that when it comes down to how the offense is ran and who is going to see playing time, only Brian Hill calls the shots. Look no further than this years draft pick. Otis has said on numerous occassions he drafted JJ for Dwight, that was his main reason for drafting JJ. He knew JJ might have some defensive liabilities, but felt because he would spread the floor and open things up for Dwight and Darko, it would make up for any of his defensive short comings.

Unfortunately, Otis is not on the same page with Brian Hill. As this season will serve as evidence for the players agents, Otis can only do so much when it comes down to bringing in players. It is the coach that will make the final decision, regardless of the reasons Otis brings a player in. As much as I want to believe this will be a summer filled with raised expectations and high profile signings, I am starting to get the blunt reality check of what will really happen.

As a fan of the NBA not just the Magic you can not blame Dwight or Darko when it comes to any decision they might make. When it comes down to it, they know what kind of offense they want to be in. If it is not the one Hill is running, it is a free world and they can choose to take their games elsewhere. Hopefully management will make the appropriate changes before it comes to that.

OK gang....I do stop by and check out what is being said once and awhile, though I have moved on the greener pastures. But I had to chime in on this one.

1. Go away Grant..if your going to play go elsewhere, if your going to retire, retire but it is my hope that you have played your last game in a Magic uniform (you know the one you have so rarely worn). Grant Hill is the face of the frustrations every Magic fan has had endure for the last 7 years. Its time for a clean break and a new era in Orlando. If Grant stays he will only retard the growth of the younger players, the temptation to rely on him will be too great for a coaching staff that has little imagination (see #5)

2. The Magic have to back up the money truck and shovel cash Dwights way until either Dwight or the NBA cap rules tell them to stop. Once the ink is dry on the contract Dwight needs to (in his level headed way) public speak about his role, his game and his vision for the franchise. Dwight will have influence if he chooses to into the path the Magic take, not only in his devlopment but in the teams make-up over the next several years. Use that power for good.....

3. I know that their are many Jameer lovers (though I cannot fathom why) around here. In my house, poor decision making, selfish atitudes, stupidity, and just about any other gaff is refered to as being Jameerlike. The cat misses the litterbox, she is Jameerlike, my wife gets into a fender bender she has Jameerlike driving skills, I pick a bad stock, I have made a Jameerlike decision. I know he will probably be back (probably cause he has compromising photo's of Otis and the Devos family) but lets hope its not as a starter. Perhaps he could do suit duty next to Garrity (see #7).

When drafted I compared Jameer to Mateen Cleeves, and I have been proven right except the teams that handled Cleeves knew he was a bust, Orlando for some reason decided to make him a face of the franchise and trust this team to him. Shame on them. The best Jameer can hope for now is a Lindsey Hunter like career (you know, mostly ineffective back up point guard) or a nice career in Greece...or Italy....or........

4. Draft will be a non event. I do not expect any impact from any picks. What the Magic need to do is marshal every spare cap dollar left after extending Dwight and re signing Darko and offer it to Chuncey Billups. If its not enough to woo Billups, DO NOT offer it to Moe Williams or Vince Carter but look for a cheaper PG solution like maybe Ridenour (or Blake) and get a decent veteran big. Just cause you have cap money does not mean you have to spend it stupidly. I would also think about extending Hedo (maybe two years through 2009-2010) at reasonable money. I think he has a place in the Magic future and could be signed more cheaply by extending then letting his contract lapse.

5. He will be back...I will go nuts ranting at him on the TV, but thats better than what someone suggested here (Rick Carlisle). You will LOVE Carlisile....he likes a half court pace (bad for Orlando) hates to go away from that regardless of his talent (gee.....sounds Brian Hill like). It was so bad in Indy that they brought in Johnny Davis (who holds the title of worst Magic coach of all time) as an assistant and forced Carlisle to embrace a more up tempo style. As any basketball fan knows if Johnny Davis is involved, and if the head coach's heart is not in the change, you get what Indy got....a lottery pick (for the first time in 10 seasons).

If the Magic falter early I expect a coaching change. I also expect a shake up with the coaching staff (Sterner stays) forced by the front office with an assistant capable of taking over put in place. If Hill manages to survive the season he better log 45+ wins and a decent playoff run or he will not be back for 2008-2009.

6. The arena will happen, and coupled with Dwight's extension, and Darko's resigning, and Billups coming to Orlando (one can dream) this will be a very good summer for the Magic as far as PR.

7. Pat probably plays out the string, will be getting new suits from Joseph A. Banks, may come in handy if needed in very limited spot duty, and we will all be looking forward to Pat Garrity night during the 2008/2009 season...all part of the Magic's comittment to the past. I also think it possible he joins the radio team after retirement, or gets one of those jobs passing out volleyballs at RDV.

I really want to keep Darko now. I was on the fence about him, but he showed alot in the playoffs. He stepped it up when the time called.

As for Grant, I would not mind him coming back in a 6th man role.

Keeping it real
Sixth Man
I Know all of you are going to kill me when I say this, but the answer for the point guard is right on our bench "Arroyo". Right now the problem is that Brian Hill style does not favor Arroyo (half court game). Arroyo good years in Utah was because of a fast pace game like. Everytime I watch Deron play it reminds me of Arroyo in Utah. Arroyo shooting ability in Utah was great, because beleive it or not Jerry let him play his game. That's why Arroyo earned a 4 year 16 million contract. Maybe by the end of FIBA basketball tournament all of you may have a different view of Arroyo.

I also understand that this team is built around Howard, but obviously it didn't go very far in the playoff. Howard in my opinion is going to be a turnover machine for the rest of his career, so having said that you have to speed up your game.

What y'all think.

If I was in charge, I would:

1. Fire Hill and bring in Adelman
2. Take a look at Rashard Lewis. I've been hearing that he wants the max. If so, then stay away from him. Also take a look at Billups, but I hear that he wants the max too and he's getting old now.
3. Resign Darko for no more than $7 million per year.
4. Lock up Howard
5. Sign Hill to the minimum
6. No extension for Jameer
7. Bring in a big man coach for Howard. Perhaps try to get Clifford Ray back.
8. Sign a veteran big man for a low price. We need one more big man in our rotation.

1. Grant Hill retires in the next 2 weeks.
2. Lock up Dwight
3. no extension for Jameer
4. Trade 2nd round pick and Augustine for a vet big.
5. Send B.Hill to the D-League, get Adleman
6. No go on the arena for at lease another year.
7. Send Garrity to the D-League.
8. Resign the Serb for a good figure, 6, maybe 7 a year.

I agree completely.

I also really agree and respect the MagicConfid article, which is new for me since in the past I have taken what he says on his website with a grain of salt. It's obvious that Brian Hill has annoyed several of our players and we are on the verge of a riot again (this time with extensions and resigning being the major factor).

We really need to get a big splash free agent for our fans and for the optimism of our players. Our organization has been preparing for this offseason for 3 years now. It needs to pay off.
We really need to fire Brian Hill or risk our players leaving us. It's code red in code blue.
We need to trade into the first round in this upcoming draft with our 3 second rounders.
We need to try to resign Darko, which could be easier that you think if we simply fire Brian Hill and verbally promise to promote Darko to starter.
We need to please Howard however possible to get him to sign a max year extension with us. We also need him to get a coach to refine other parts of his game.
We need another answer at PG. The Nelson experiment came up short.
We need to get the stadium finalized.

Really, most of it all revolves around us firing Brian Hill. If we succeed, we will find ourselves sitting pretty. If we don't fire him:

Howard will sign a shorter contract, or no contract.
Darko is gone
Our players will be angry, especially Diener (who will leave) and JJ (who will verbally attack the team I bet).
We will have trouble attracting a big name free agent.

Fingers crossed.

I didn't know we had that many 2nd round picks. Maybe we can deal some of them for a Steve Blake type of PG (When I watch Denver play I really wish we had him)

Why?

There's no way 3 2nd round picks will make the roster and it would be good to get something out of some of them
