You heard the rumor in the game thread, but here's the official word: Diener moves ahead of Arroyo Travis Diener will replace Carlos Arroyo as the first point guard off the bench, beginning tonight when the struggling Orlando Magic play host to the Washington Wizards at Amway Arena. Arroyo has been the backup point guard to starter Jameer Nelson but has been in a slump for the past few weeks. The Magic's offense also has been having trouble scoring points, particularly at the end of games. Coach Brian Hill confirmed the switch to Diener after Friday morning's shootaround. He also could be seen with his arm around Arroyo as the two went into his office to meet. "I felt we needed to make a change at this time," Hill said. "It's for tonight. Then we'll see." Arroyo, acquired last season, along with Darko Milicic, from the Detroit Pistons, is not shooting well, and Hill agrees that Arroyo has been pressing. Arroyo started four games this season and is averaging 8.4 points and 3.1 assists. But his performance has dropped off significantly in the past 14 games, when he has averaged 4.4 points and shot just 28.2 percent (22-for-78). Diener, a second-year guard out of Marquette, has played sparingly this season but is considered one of the team's best shooters. He is averaging 5.3 points and 1.4 assists in 13.1 minutes per game this season. His is shooting 47.1 percent and 41.7 percent from behind the 3-point arc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe Coach Hill watches the games after all. |

Drafting Marbury + Foyle = Championship. \o/

So, does this means Hill only took about 2 weeks more than any Magic fan to state the obvious? |

Great news. Hopefully this will make Arroyo play better to get his spot back. |

Exactly. And if he doesn't get it back, he's where he belongs on the bench. |

Finally. Let Carlos figure his game out. In the mean time use Diener who has played a heck of a lot better than Carlos. |

Diener didn't get a fair chance tonight. 0-3, but all three shots were either rushed or forced because he kept on getting double-teamed. BUT, he still did a hell of a better job than Chuck would've at distributing the ball. And defensively, he did good.

Sure!!! How many assists did he make? That will be Zero (0), along with his defense on the Wizards 2nd guard stringer and his flagrant foul the cost the Magic 4 pts and the possesion of the ball. I think this experiment just showed that Diener isn't ready to be our backup PG and the Magic are in deep trouble if Arroyo doesn't get his game back. As a matter of fact, I personally think the magic are showing Diener for a possible trade before mid Feb. At least with Carlos we got 3-4 assists per game

^^^^^^That flagrant foul was a JOKE!!! And it was 2 points and the ball, plus Hedo's technical made it 3 and the ball. Chuck may get 3 assists a game, but he gets about 3 turnovers and 5 horrible shots up. At least Diener is dishing before looking for his shot. And Diener had zero turnovers so he didn't do anything wrong. |
