We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. ORLANDO - It's a good thing Orlando rookie J.J. Redick has a sense of humor these days.
When the Magic came together Saturday following their morning practice, center Dwight Howard repeatedly mimicked Redick's exaggerated head fake, a move the shooting guard uses to get defenders off their feet.
But these days, because Redick has struggled finding his rhythm and confidence, he has played more like an indecisive rookie than the college star who had a distinctive swagger at Duke.
Grant Hill, teammate and fellow Duke alumnus, Grant Hill noted: "I think J.J. has pump-faked more in the last two games than he did in four years at Duke."
It's understandable that Redick has struggled, considering his NBA introduction. He missed most of June, July and August with a herniated disc in his back, then sat out training camp and the exhibition season because of torn tissue in his left foot.
He spent the first 13 games on the inactive list or the bench. But with Hedo Turkoglu, Jameer Nelson, Keith Bogans and Hill out injured lately, Redick has had some significant minutes to shake off the rust.
The transition has been tough. Used to having the offense run through him when he was college basketball's second-leading scorer (26.8 points a game) at Duke, Redick admittedly has struggled with knowing when and when not to shoot.
"Some of those (head fakes), I should just shoot them," said Redick, who is 4 of 15 in four games. "If there's daylight there, I need to shoot it and do it with confidence. The more comfort level that I have, the better off I will be."

Nothing more than what I've been saying lately. He'll start shooting them with confidence and will start having good numbers if he gets minutes. He's not gonna improve in the bench.

Coach Brian Hill says that this early stretch of the regular season has served as rookie shooting guard J.J. Redick's "exhibition season. He's just getting his feet wet." Redick scored six points against the Cavs, looking more comfortable after being limited by injuries this summer and during the preseason. He has been trying to adjust to a lesser role after being the focus of Duke's offense the past four seasons. "I've been starting since I was in the seventh grade," Redick said. "I think the best players learn to adapt and I think I can be one of those guys." He's a little embarrassed about being a crowd favorite at home. "I hope I can get on some of those streaks where I hit a few shots in a row and get them on their feet for a good reason," he said. "Not just me checking into the game." . . .

LOL. I like that Dwight makes fun of him. I can see Dwight walking over to him and saying "Hey JJ" and as soon as JJ opens his mouth, Dwight head fakes him and walks away
