We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank all Orlando Magic fans who contributed to our little community on the web over the years. This message board started out as a college project back in 2004, and back then I never could have imagined that it would last as long as it did.
However, all good things come to an end. I have moved on to other projects in life, and most of our members here have followed suit. I will leave this message board online as a visual archive into the thoughts and ideas of a group of Magic fanatics that lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance.
Special thanks to our Staff Members: Black and Blue, MAGICMANEVAN, and NYCMagicFan

For the new Magic fan site that will go along with our forum, I am going to be including a page that chronicles all the great moments in Orlando Magic history. I would like you all to contribute some moments that you feel should be on the list, and I'll show you what I've got so far. P.S. - If you don't know about the new site, here's the link to the thread announcing it: http://magicmadness.us/index.php?showtopic=4091 And here is what I've written so far, using my knowledge, other sites, and the Magic media guide: June 27, 1989 With the 11th pick in their first ever NBA Draft, the Magic select Nick Anderson, a 6-6 forward from the University of Illinois. Proving to be more than worthy of a lottery pick, Anderson would go on to play nine seasons with the club, and is currently the Magic's all-time leader in scoring. November 4, 1989 The Magic open their inaugural season with a home game against the New Jersey Nets. Magic forward Terry Catledge scores 25 points as the Magic lose a close one, 111-106. Losses would become commonplace for the expansion team Magic over the next couple of seasons. December 30, 1990 Popular Magic guard Scott Skiles sets the NBA record for assists in a game, with 30 against the Denver Nuggets. The record has remained unbroken ever since, and likely never will be. May 23, 1993 The Magic win the NBA Draft Lottery, and receive the first selection in the 1993 NBA Draft. The Magic would go on to select "the Big Fella" - Shaquille O'Neal, a dominating 7-1 center from Louisiana State University. April 8, 1994 The Magic clinch their first-ever playoff berth with a 117-103 win over the Detroit Pistons. April 17, 1995 With a 111-110 win over the Washington Bullets, the Magic clinch their first of two straight Atlantic Division championships. After finishing the previous season with a 41-41 record, the Magic improve by nine games, posting a 50-32 final record under new head coach Brian Hill. June 4, 1995 In the most important game of team history, the Orlando Magic defeat the Indiana Pacers 105-81 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, earning a trip to the NBA Finals. With their win, the Magic become the second fastest team to advance to the Finals in league history, having been an expansion team just six years prior. April 18, 1996 Magic guard Dennis Scott sets the NBA record for three-pointers in a game, with 11 against the Atlanta Hawks. Coincidentally, the assist on his record breaking shot came from teammate Brian Shaw, who was the then current record holder (10, on April 8, 1993). The record was later broken by Kobe Bryant, who made 12 three-pointers on January 7, 2003, and by Donyell Marshall, who also made 12 three-pointers on March 12, 2005. June 7, 1999 The Magic name Glenn "Doc" Rivers as the new head coach of the team. Rivers becomes the fifth coach in the history of the franchise, taking over for retired head coach Chuck Daly. Rivers is highly successful in his first season, leading a rag-tag group of "no-names" to a 41-41 record and winning the 1999-2000 NBA Coach of the Year award. August 3, 2000 The Magic sign two of the most coveted free agents available during the summer of 2000; superstar Grant Hill of the Detroit Pistons, and young star Tracy McGrady of the Toronto Raptors. While Hill's injuries would sideline him throughout the next six years, McGrady would emerge into a scoring champion and league superstar, keeping the Magic relevant for the next four seasons. April 11, 2003 Coming back from a 15-point, first half deficit, the Magic defeat the Indiana Pacers 98-86 on the road to clinch their eighth playoff berth in the last 10 years, and their 11th straight season with a .500 or better record. The team's streak of 11 straight .500 or better seasons tied for the third longest active .500+ streak in the NBA at the time. March 10, 2004 Magic forward Tracy McGrady sets a new franchise record for most points in a game, with 62 against the Washington Wizards. McGrady goes 20-37 from the floor, 5-14 from three-point range, and 17-26 from the free throw line in becoming only the 11th player in NBA history to score 62 points or more in a single game. June 24, 2004 With the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, The Magic select Dwight Howard, a 7-0 center from SW Atlanta Christian Academy. Later on during the draft, the Magic trade for the rights to guard Jameer Nelson, the 2004 College Player of the Year. Howard and Nelson have since become a dynamic duo on the court, and are currently young emerging stars in the league. April 19, 2006 The Magic wrap up the 2005-06 campaign with 16 wins in their final 22 games, narrowly missing the playoffs despite being completely out of the race just weeks earlier. The team ends up with the best finish during that span in franchise history. (Things I still need to write about: Horace Grant signing, NBA Finals, trading Webber for Hardaway, Drafting miller (ROY), more 1990-1992 history, more 1996- 1999 history, "The Steal", first game against Shaq and the Lakers, etc...) So, please read through the list, and add your comments, thoughts, and other moments that you feel should be included on the site. This is just a rough draft so far, so I know that there are plenty other things that should be added to the list. Thanks guys. ![]() Edit: The above is an original post from 2006. If you would still like to discuss great moments in Magic history, please feel free to. However, they will not be added to this list because the website in question is, well, no longer active.

I don't know about adding the T-Mac trade, since it wasn't really regarded as a "great moment" for Magic fans. I might add it though, anyone have an opinion on this? But, that reminds me, I will add the trade of Cato for Milicic and Arroyo. I'm going to have the site up by the time of our first preseason game, so it's coming soon... |

I think we should add it. I dont know about you guys but when i heard about t-mac being traded to houston i was shocked at first. But then i realized that i hated his guts for bailing out on the team and i was glad he got traded. So i think that it was a "Great Moment" because he didnt want us to get Dwight and we wouldnt have the same team that we do now if that trade wouldnt have gone down. |

I don't know...I'm trying to put down great moments in our history, and I wouldn't consider trading a superstar like McGrady a "great" moment. Yeah, it's ended up well for us, but his departure isn't viewed as a high note in our franchise history. Things have luckily turned out well for us, but we did lose one of the best players on the planet. If I add that, then I've got to add Penny being traded too, since we signed Hill & McGrady soon after. These two trades aren't really what I'm going for with this idea...I'm looking more for moments like signing McGrady, drafting Penny, going to the NBA Finals, drafting Howard - things like that. Not us getting swept in the Finals, losing star players, etc. Trading McGrady was part of Magic history, but it had negative implications, not positive ones. On another note, I'm adding Penny's '97 playoff series against the Heat, Howard's 28/26 game to keep our playoff hopes alive, and the Magic beating the Celtics, eliminating them from the playoffs in the last ever game played at the Boston Garden. |

Those are all great choices. If you want to add another individual game, here was a great Magic game...Here is my description 12/30/01 - Magic @ Knicks. Magic go on a 24-4 run to come back from 16 points down with 6:30 left to beat the Knicks in the Garden 94-90. Mike Miller and Pat Garrity hit back to back Three Pointers to cut the lead to 88-87 with 1:20 left in the 4th Quarter. Then following an Allan Houston jumper with 1:00 left to push the lead to 90-87 Knicks, Tracy McGrady drives to the hoop for a three point play to tie the game with 50 seconds left. Following missed shots by Allan Houston and Charlie Ward, Tracy McGrady and Troy Hudson both make two free throws each to seal the 94-90 victory for Orlando. McGrady finished the game with 29 points and 11 Rebounds. I was at this game and the Garden was never so quiet!!! It was great!! At this point in the season, the Knicks had blown a bunch of double digit fourth quarter leads and this was like their 4th or 5th in the month of December. |

Leapfrogging off of the great article on this site about how our team was named, how about adding that to the beginning of the list? Something like "Via a fan vote, and a magical description of the city by a corporate member's daughter, the Orlando basketball franchise is officially named 'The Magic.'" You can also add to this "The Bible proclaims: 'On the 8th day, the clouds parted, the birds sang, and the Lord proclaimeth: "Let there be Diener!" |

Well, the site is long gone, but if it were still there, then yes, that would definitely have been added. ![]() Edit: In fact, now that you've brought this topic back up, I'll go ahead and edit the first post to make it where people can still discuss memorable moments in our team's history without it being about the old website. |

The Magic moment in history is more to the fact that they took the first trip to the NBA Finals and having a taste of what's it is like to play til the end. It's sad for them to lose unfortunately, but this team, currently will go to the trip once again. |
