Trent Green is coming off a concussion season. What are the chances him getting knock out of a game? Do not have clue what the new guy is doing.

Well, right now it looks like the Dolphins will either get Green, Carr, or Quinn for this upcoming season and will keep Daunte to compete with them for the #1 spot. I personally like this approach as Cameron is a genius at developing QBs and evaluating them.
I'm confident we will at least be better at that position (we have nowhere to go but up anyways!)

Joey Porter is a huge addition. The Fins need some help at that secondary spot. It's just horrible. Maybe Miami trades up for Quinn.

We wont get Quinn. He is going to the Browns most likely with thier top pick. We NEED a WR to throw to.. and another QB for insurance. The draft will be crucial for this team.

Dolphins are supposed to trade for Trent Green in the next few days. There is also word that Culpepper is a goner once that happens.
So much for that Jersey I paid for! I'm going to cross out Culpepper's name and write "Green" on it. I figure I will just add names as they come in since the Dolphins apparently just want to do a new QB every year from now until 2030.

I agree that Quinn will most likely be gone MME. If by some miracle Cleveland doesn't pick him, then the Dolphins might trade up. If Quinn goes 3rd then I look for the Dolphins to select Kolb, the QB out of Houston, in the 2nd round.

Clock is ticking down to the draft and it's sure to be a big day for the Dolphins.

The question on everyone's lips is whether Miami will be lucky enough to get Brady Quinn. Personally I'd be surprised if he made it past the 3rd pick in the draft. If he isn't available, I'd love for us to draft Kevin Kolb or Beck, other QBs in the draft. Kolb looks great and we could get him cheap!

My view of the Dolphins' draft:

Going into the draft, the top two people on my wish list were Brady Quinn and Ted Ginn JR. If we got one of those two and filled the other position with the 2nd rounder, it would be a dream for me.

Cut to the Dolphins picking 9th. They pass up Brady Quinn and as with every Miami fan out there I yelled "WHAT?! NO!!!" and was very upset. I thought Brady was ours and was very upset we passed on him.

Then I calmed down, and I thought about it:

1)Ginn was my #2 overall want in the draft. He commands entire defenses to watch him. We got him, so it lessened the blow. He is currently injured, but that will definitely be completely healed a few months from now so it is not a concern.
2)I thought about why the team passed on Quinn and realized that they had someone else in mind who they liked more. This had to be the case since our GM Mueller is a wiz at drafting QBs (He got Bulger SUPER late), Coach Cameron is a wiz at scouting and developing QBs (Brees and Rivers anyone?) and their QB coach O'Shea used to be Brady Quinn's personal coach. They had to realize he wasn't worth the $ and wanted someone else.
3)Many, many publications (My personal fave The Sporting News included) had Quinn as the #3 or #4 QB in the draft. It was within reason our team would agree with them.
4)Two of the biggest factors emerging as determining the long term success of QBs in the NFL are becoming completion % (accuracy) and time spent developing. While both had good development, Quinn's BIG, BIG knock was he just wasn't accurate. Many were saying he had amazing physical skills, but just threw off center...much like another player we are familiar with: Joey Harrington.

Realizing this, I came to the conclusion that the Dolphins #40 pick had to be either Kolb or Beck, the two QBs I had predicted in this same thread. I personally liked Kolb, but looking at the film and numbers realized that Beck was THE MAN when it came to accuracy. The guy not only could not miss, but he was incredible at leading receivers. Beck's hype also was huge as many had the Ravens taking him late in the first round.

Cut to the 2nd round: Kolb is selected by the Eagles, ending the speculation for me as to who the Dolphins are drafting. I just hoped Beck was their man all along.

Cut to the Dolphins picking, Beck is shown on TV smiling and answering the phone. You knew it, baby.

In the hours following the draft, it came out why Beck was the Dolphins' man all along: His accuracy, and the fact that Cameron, Mueller, and O'Shea all agreed that Beck was a clone of Drew Brees and Steve Young. He was the 2nd QB on their draft board, with Quinn 3 and Kolb 4. They even went as far as to tell owner Wayne Huizenga on Wednesday "We are drafting Beck. He simply is going to be better than Quinn and will one day be the face of this franchise...We hope you are prepared for the media backlash." Wayne smiled and told them to go ahead, especially after they said Ginn was their pick at #9 and he was a Randy Moss clone.

After these two picks, the Dolphins got their center of the Future from Hawaii (rated the 2nd center in the entire draft) and a RB named Booker, the RB that every scout said will probably turn into the next Reggie Bush/Maurice Jones Drew.

Following this, the Dolphins selected Paul Soliai, a guy who MANY people rated the top nose tackle in the entire draft. Then, they got a FB out of Hawaii (though ESPN said he was a RB) who has a video of himself busting through a wall on youtube. Check it out if you get a chance. After this they next got another Guard/Center prospect in Moreno for depth to their o line.

They still have their two 7th round picks (I hope we can get a CB to try out or maybe another WR), so this Dolphins draft isn't over...Whoa, actually the Dolphins are about to draft their first 7th as I write this...

They grab a LB named Kelvin Smith. A guy to add depth in their 3-4 defense. Not bad. Mel Kiper just said he was a steal this late.

Finally, they grab a punter, a position they definitely needed help at since they currently had no one.

Overall I am in love with this draft. It will forever be known as the draft that we didn't get Brady Quinn in, but for Dolphins fans it should be known as the draft in which we built our offense for the next 10 years. We addressed QB, WR, RB, FB, OL, and C on offense, which is just nuts. It looks likely that the Chiefs will be forced to release Trent Green, and if that is the case we are all sewn up and ready for the season to start.

There is a reason why the press has backed off a TON since we passed on Quinn, and some have even started to see the genius method behind the madness: this was a downright amazing draft for the team.

My Dolphins draft grade: A-

Miami Herald - Quarterback Trent Green believes the Dolphins are the ''best fit,'' for him in 2007 and he is asking Chiefs president Carl Peterson to make a trade that would send him to the Dolphins.

''The best fit for me has been Miami.'' Green said on Kansas City's WHB 810-AM Friday. 'I just felt a real comfort zone there. So we got a contract ironed out. Carl was saying `Hey, we'll get this thing done,' and now it's kind of dragged on.''

I'm not sure exactly how John Beck will do for you guys but I think Miami had a solid draft anyways. Getting Ted Ginn is sort of a risk but you guys do need a KR and also another WR to stretch the field.

The picks:

1st round, #9 overall--Ted Ginn Jr., WR/KR, Ohio State
2nd round, #40--John Beck, QB, BYU
2nd round, #60--Samson Satele, C, Hawaii
3rd round, #71--Lorenzo Booker, RB, Florida State
4th round, #108--Paul Soliai, DT, Utah
6th round, #181--Reagan Mauia, FB, Hawaii
6th round, #199--Drew Mormino, C, Central Michigan
7th round, #219--Kelvin Smith, LB, Syracuse
7th round, #225--Brandon Fields, P, Michigan State
7th round, #238--Abraham Wright, DE, Colorado

Best pick: Booker
Worst pick: Beck

Analysis:

The Dolphins 2007 draft is going to be talked about for a long time, and probably not in the light that the guys making the picks would prefer. They defied all conventional wisdom by taking Ted Ginn at #9 overall. Ginn is the fastest player to ever enter the NFL, a proven dynamic kick and punt returner and an outstanding open-field threat. He’s still not polished as a wideout, though he did show steady improvement throughout his college career. Ginn gives the team a legit deep threat to stretch the field and keep the safeties honest, something they sorely lacked the last couple of seasons. But to say he’s the 9th best player in this draft even 3 years from now is a major stretch. At his optimal ceiling he’s a #2 WR, and his frail build and slow recovery from a foot injury caused some teams to significantly lower his stock.

With their 2nd round pick they chose John Beck as their QB of the future, instead of Drew Stanton, Trent Edwards, or even Troy Smith. Beck is 25, played in a system that does not translate well to the NFL, and has average attributes (at best) across the board. In short, he’s got career backup written all over him if all goes well. The two guys he reminds me of most are Steve Walsh and Brooks Bollinger, and those are not complimentary comparisons. They took him at least fifty spots too early.

The Dolphins had a pressing need for a 3rd down/change of pace back to help Ronnie Brown, and Booker is a perfect fit in that role. He’s an elusive Ladell Betts-type with great hands and good vision, and by sharing the load with Brown his blocking and toughness deficiencies are limited.

Grading Beck purely on his skills set and not on his accuracy. Obviously they don't know how scouts are using accuracy to measure QB success rate in the NFL these days as the top attribute.
50 spots too early? Did they see when Kevin Kolb went? Did they see that other teams were considering moving up to get Beck?

I usually am pretty open to opinion, and am on the fence about if Ginn will be all we asked for (I think he will be), but Beck is a guy I REALLY think will succeed.

MIAMI (AP) -- Trent Green could be on the field with the Dolphins by this weekend after Miami finally agreed to terms with Kansas City on a trade for the quarterback.

Green will undergo a physical in Miami and if he passes it, the trade will be completed, a person within the NFL with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday night. The person requested not to be identified because the deal is not official.

Neither team would confirm the trade Tuesday. A Dolphins spokesman said he had no knowledge of a deal even being worked out, much less finalized. Green's agent, Jim Steiner, did not return messages seeking comment.
