Well look at it this way:

-Cam Cameron has a history of working very well with tight ends. He looked at Randy McMichael and thought he could do better with a cheaper alternative. Randy had a pretty bad year last year, and was criticized heavily for his words in the locker room and taking plays off.

-Harrington finished the season as our #3, with Cleo Lemon easily outperforming him. Harrington tried to use Tom Brady's "Quick short passes routine", but wouldnt look when he threw, which amounted to a ton of Ints at the end of the day. He was seriously going nowhere, sad to say.

-Welker was our #3 slot receiver, and we got BETTER compensation for him than Marshall Faulk got in his prime and a ton of other people. The compensation we got was extremely good, and the Patriots are paying him WAY too much longterm which will hurt them in the future.

So to recap: dropped dead weight, now have money to make some splashes in free agency (word is we are aquiring Steelers LB Joey Porter!!!!!! also Kelley Washington and maybe Kevin Curtis!!!), and suddenly have way more draft picks than we have had in recent memory. We can even trade up now with that second from the Welker trade to get a top 5 pick this year.

Most dolphins fans are rejoicing on rooftops. I am one of those too (especially if we get Joey Porter!)

OH wow your way sounds alot better!

Joey Porter?! also Kelley Washington? maybe Kevin Curtis? way more draft picks? trade up ..to get a top 5 pick this year? Ok sounds great! Im with you then!

Lol yeah bud. When I first heard we cut McMike I was like 'Oh crap...this isn't good." Then I read the article and saw that we were freeing up space for Porter and aquiring draft picks with all of the dead weight we are cutting. It actually sounds like they are completely saving this franchise from the salary cap/useless player hell we were mired in.
On top of it, Sirius radio reported that our GM Mueller flew to speak to Porter and unless Cincinnati throws an obscene amount of money at him we have him. :wow: :haha: I love the idea of a LB core of Zach Thomas, Channing Crowder and Joey Porter!

Yeah i was the same way about Mc Mike but i hadnt heard about them freeing up cap space for Porter and acquiring draft picks.

Zach Thomas, Channing Crowder and Joey Porter? That sounds like a great addition to an already great defense! Now we just need to worry about getting the ball in the end zone... Cleo Lemon our starting QB? :( If that happens we have problems. We need to get some help there... Maybe Brady Quinn, Brian Brohm, Troy Smith or Drew Stanton.

There's talk that Troy Smith may slide all the way down into the second day of drafting. I definitely think he is a better quarter back than that, though. He wouldn't be a bad alternative for the Phins, espescially if you can get him in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

Ink on the dotted line: JOEY PORTER TO THE DOLPHINS!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2789401

Looks like we mean business with turning this franchise around. Now we just need a WR, QB to develop, CB depth, and O line help...in short, offense and cornerbacks.
We can plug up those holes with cheap options like Kevin Curtis and Kelley Washington, and address the rest in the draft. I'd love if we got Ted Ginn JR personally. He is a monster and I think he'll be the next Randy Moss.

Joey Porter to the Dolphins! Great!

Ted Ginn would be awesome... but dont you think QB is more of a dire need? We could have the top 5 recievers, but we wouldnt have a QB to throw to them. Just like the situation in Oakland with Andrew Walter.

Oh i definitely would prefer Quinn or Russell, but I doubt either will slip past the Texans who are targeting them too. We got screwed being one position behind them. We will probably need to move up.

Well we got some picks to give away. But since Harrington is good as gone, and Culpepper is a lock to be anywhere but the field, it makes me think something is going on. Im sure they are on the phones working on a trade to move up in the draft or aquire a QB.

Well word is that we are interested in aquiring Trent Green. I see Daunte as our opening day starter though unless we get Green. I have been yelling for years that we need to develop a young talent as most successful teams do, and hopefully we will finally draft someone to do just that.

Trent Green sounds good. Hes a good QB who is a good leader and is way underrated. We cant rely on Daunte. Hes the Dolphins' version of Grant Hill. :X

Boston Herald - Wide receiver Donte Stallworth came and went from Foxboro yesterday without a signed contract, which is a departure from the way the Patriots have done business so far this dizzying free agency season.

There were various reports last night that the Pats had made a hard-to-believe, six-year, $32 million offer to Stallworth.

Sources said Stallworth would make trips to Tennessee and Miami the next few days, and then choose between the various offers.

There were other reports that Stallworth actually agreed to a deal, but those were apparently false alarms.

I personally could do without Stallworth. He has a crazy injury history and isn't reliable. I'd much rather grab a WR somewhere in the draft and get either Kelley Washington or Kevin Curtis for less $$.
As for Trent Green, I like him, but still actually would prefer to go with Daunte. Trent would be the epitome of a stopgap solution as he is already 37. At least we could still get a good 6 or 7 years out of Daunte if he is healthy and his head is screwed on right. I can only assume that Cam feels the same way and hopefully he will draft a young QB early.

People are reporting that Daunte's knee is still not 100% and the team is rapidly losing confidence in him. Lately, all indications point to us trading a 7th rounder for Trent Green and drafting a young qb to learn under him.
I wouldn't mind this, but wish I hadn't spent the money on that Culpepper jersey!

Trent Green for a 7th sounds like a great deal. We get a solid QB for now then we can develop another guy and still keep Daunte as our 2nd string. ;)
