NFL Fantasy Fifty

Rk P A Player Pos TM Comment
1        Shaun Alexander  RB  SEA  Looking sharp in camp. No need for much preseason work
2  3    L. Tomlinson  RB  SD  Forget preseason; he'll dominate when it counts
3  2    Larry Johnson  RB  KC  Need some proof that he can run without Willie Roaf
4        Tiki Barber  RB  NYG  Pondering retirement after '06. Will he give it his all?
5        Steven Jackson  RB  STL  New coach Linehan will significantly run more
6        Rudi Johnson  RB  CIN  Reported to camp in better shape
7        LaMont Jordan  RB  OAK  Ran hard in the opener, but team chemistry a question
8        Cadillac Williams  WR  TB  Bucs looking for him to carry another big load. Will he last?
9        Edgerrin James  RB  ARI  Zero rushing yards in preseason opener not a great start
10        Ronnie Brown  RB  MIA  Is Nos. 1 and 2 options in run game w/o Williams

So this means the Ronnie Brown is projected to go in the top 10 in many fantasy leagues and is getting mad respect for his game. Out of all the dominant players in the NFL, hes in the top 10. :wow:

MME, Morris' case seems weird because he claims it was sudafed that made him test positive. Either way, we recently signed Lee Suggs to backup Brown. That could be a triumph or a disaster.

DOLPHINS PLAY THURSDAY BAY-BEE! NO ROETHLESBERGER!

Suggs? Hes was a good back for cleveland, the bad thing is that he has a history of injuries. But he should be ok in the backup position.

Yeah i heard the other day that the steelers are without Big Ben. Thats awesome news and i cant wait till thursday night!

It doesnt matter that Ben isnt playing. The Steelers will still have an easy time beating the sorry fish. Everybody is underestimating Charlie Batch as a backup, and even if he doesnt come through, they still got Fast Willie and the best front 7 in the league on Defense.

Daunte better protect that knee against this Blitzburgh attack

Big plays help Steelers seal win late

Maybe Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban should be flagged for a costly delay, too.

Tight end Heath Miller chugged his way down the Steelers' sideline on an 87-yard touchdown pass play midway through the fourth quarter, fill-in QB Charlie Batch's third scoring pass of the game, and the Super Bowl champions beat the Dolphins 28-17 Thursday night in the NFL's first game of the season.

Only Miller didn't really score - TV replays clearly showed him stepping out between the 2 and 1-yard lines. However, Saban waited until too late to throw his red challenge flag, which fell to the turf sight unseen behind and referee Walt Coleman watching the extra point kick. That meant the Steelers didn't have to try to get the ball into the end zone from short yardage.

Saban apparently thought he could throw the challenge flag at any time before the kick went off, but no official saw him and thus there was no replay. And no Dolphins upset, either, even though the Steelers didn't look particularly sharp in their first game that counted since the Super Bowl - despite Willie Parker's 115 yards rushing, Miller's 101 yards receiving and Batch's first three-TD game since Nov. 18, 2001, with Detroit.

Miami had a chance to come back, but new quarterback Daunte Culpepper was intercepted on consecutive series, with linebacker Joey Porter scoring on a 42-yard return with about three minutes left.

"We knew we had put them in a situation where they had to pass the ball. I had my chance to make the play and I made it," Porter said.

Porter was so excited, he ran to the sideline and kissed coach Bill Cowher on the cheek - the Steelers' first known sideline kiss since Cowher planted one on Kordell Stewart during a 1997 comeback victory in Baltimore.

"I'd go to war for him," Porter said.

The Dolphins, trying to build off the momentum of their six consecutive victories to end last season, never led until Ronnie Brown scored on a 5-yard run to make it 17-14 in the third quarter. Marty Booker, sidelined with what appeared to be a concussion in the first half, came back to make a 50-yard catch of Culpepper's pass, aided by safety Tyrone Carter's slip, to set up the score.

Culpepper was mostly effective in his first start for the Dolphins, until his late-game mistakes. He also was intercepted by Troy Polamalu immediately after Miller's catch put the Steelers up. Culpepper finished 18-for-37 for 262 yards.

The Steelers also overcame a costly mistake when Batch fumbled Jeff Hartings' snap at the Miami 1 and Will Allen recovered, keeping the Dolphins in the lead temporarily.

For the first 2 1/2 quarters, the Steelers looked much like they did in the Super Bowl seven months ago - without Ben Roethlisberger, of course. The quarterback made an unexpectedly fast recovery from a June motorcycle crash, only to need an emergency appendectomy on Sunday that kept him out of his fifth game in two seasons.

Just like in that 21-10 win over Seattle in the Super Bowl, there was a Hines Ward touchdown catch, a long Parker run and a favorable call from an official, helping the Steelers go up 14-7.

Ward, who sat out the preseason with a sore hamstring, caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Batch late in the first half. Parker used his speed to get loose on a 32-yard run to the Dolphins 35, and cornerback Andre Goodman drew a 23-yard pass interference call on Cedrick Wilson. Goodman started because of Travis Daniels' ankle injury.

Batch, making his first season-opening start since 2001 with Detroit, looked rusty for two drives, only to settle in and throw a 27-yard scoring pass to Nate Washington to finish off a 75-yard drive early in the second period. It was the first regular-season catch for Washington, a 2005 free agent from Tiffin University whose only other career reception came in the AFC title game.

Batch was 15-for-25 for 209 yards.

Miami couldn't get a running game going until the second half - at one point, Brown had 11 yards on nine carries - but tied it at 7 when Wes Welker's 47-yard punt return set up Brown's 2-yard run.

The Steelers unveiled their five Super Bowl championship banners during a pregame show highlighted by fireworks and an in-stadium concert, but the mood in Heinz Field wasn't entirely celebratory.

A moment of silence was held minutes before the opening kickoff for the late Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor, who was buried earlier in the day. O'Connor died in office last week of brain cancer. His son, Corey, was introduced to the crowd.

Here are some stats that back up my prediction....

Culpepper 18/37 0 TDs, 2 INTs
Batch 15/25 3 TDs, 0 INTs

Fast (strong) Willie Parker 115....yards rushing
Dolphins whole rushing "attack"....38 yards

and my boy Joey Porter....2 sacks, 1 INT, 48 yard touchdown return

Dont feel bad though fish fans....the Steelers have the tendency to make every team they play look bad

I believe I was mocked by Adamos when I drafted Willie Parker in the fantasy league. I think his exact words were "he wont produce. you can book it." Well Adamos, after 130 total yards in the first game, should I be booking that now? or later?

That was a good game last night. Daunte didn't look very good at all. The two interceptions in the fourth were horrible plays by Daunte, he needs to understand that you can't throw those balls up around Porter and Polamalu. Steelers played well, caught a couple breaks, and won the game.

After the whole replay controversy, I had to ask the question, why didn't Nick Saban throw the flag better? He tosses the red flag a few feet in front of him, where it would be very hard for the officials to see. He should have chucked that sucker towards the center of the field to make it absolutely clear what he was trying to do. He knows that the officials have to see it for it to count, so he should have made a better effort to make it as visible as possible.

Dolphins had their chances last night. Culpepper threw 2 big INTs though. They look good though. Should definitely make a run for the AFC East

Everyone on the Miami dolphins boards is calling for the head of Daunte today. That is simply retarded. He carried our team last night because the rest of the team took a while to wake up. Sure, Daunte had two ints at the end, but before that he WAS our entire team. The offensive line, the wide receivers and ESPECIALLY our cornerbacks sucked a** last night. Welker and Daunte made it a close game for us at least.

I'll say it right now: The Dolphins will win the AFC East. I held off saying anything until I saw them play, but they showed me enough good things last night to warrant that prediction. The Steelers are the defending champs, and although Efenell will point to the stats (Did you accidentally omit the td totals from those rushing stats ;) ?) the fact is that we hung with them and had a good chance of winning until our secondary collapsed entirely.

I'm annoyed that we didnt win, but I was encouraged at times by the play of our fins :)

Of course I left out the TD stats for the RBs...it made my prediction look better ;)

The people that are calling for Daunte's head are just stupid, you cant jump to conclusions after a bad quarter against one of the best defenses in the league. My prediction is that the fish will make another playoff push but come up just short at the end, as they do so many years. I would love to see Daunte prove me wrong and put up some great numbers as he did 2 years ago and make the playoffs only because he is a fellow alumni.

I agree with your assertion. My prediction is that Miami wins the AFC East with a 10-6 record and then lose in the first or second round of the playoffs. I would be perfectly happy with just being in the playoffs again.

yeah, i think you might be right...the East is pretty weak. Your only competition is New England and I dont think they can make it back to the playoffs after screwing w/ their chemistry by letting Vinateri go and the whole Deon Branch debacle....However, they have proved me wrong before.

I think New England will make the playoffs as a wild card team. They always find a way of sneaking in there...damn Patriots....

I will go on a limb here and say the Bills might do decently. I dont think they will be a playoff team, but 7-9 isnt out of the question. Loser-man at Qb just needs to actually throw downfield for once and they could be okay.
