A week before his national television debut on Dancing with the Stars, Jason Taylor is doing a delicate and artful dance with Bill Parcells and the Dolphins.

Taylor, the Dolphins' best and highest-profile player, would like out of Miami, according to two sources. But those and other sources say Taylor knows he has no choice but to play for Miami if the team decides not to hang the exit sign on his locker.

The call, simply, is not Taylor's to make.

Taylor knows the decision is in Parcells' hands. And he knows the Dolphins, losers in the Calvin Pace sweepstakes, might ultimately decide keeping him is in their best interests.

And so the dance of two dissimilar desires has begun.

Taylor is tied to the Dolphins for two more seasons, as required by his contract. That means no matter how much he would welcome a change, it is up to the Dolphins to let him go, and the team has made no public or private concession that it will unlock the front door and either trade or release him.

Fact is Parcells vehemently has denied a report suggesting the sides had ''graciously agreed to part ways,'' insisting the only way Taylor doesn't play for the Dolphins is if he retires.

Taylor's response to that stance has been to say nothing because he doesn't want to anger or embarrass the Dolphins.

Unlike DeAngelo Hall, who went to the scouting combine to lobby for a trade, unlike Chad Johnson, who publicly signaled to Parcells to call the Bengals and get him out of Cincinnati, Taylor is not ready to make any public plea for his escape -- at least not as of Sunday.

Taylor has post-NFL show business aspirations, but he has decided to perform what could be his final Dolphins act behind a curtain of civility and grace.

If he wants out, let him out...no sense on keeping a player on the roster if he doesn't want to be! Got to be professional about it. If he is not happy on the team, he will not play to his potential.

I would DEFINITELY take him in Dallas!!! Jason Taylor on one end and DeMarcus Ware on the other!? Two speedy pass rushers. Would be great! Because he is getting older, he obviously wants to win now and Dallas is definitely in that position.

Plus his former teammate Zack Thomas just signed with the Cowboys so maybe that would make him a little more inclined to come to Big D!

If Dallas got him, that would be insane! I wouldn't mind him in Jacksonville we do need a DE badly so having Jason Taylor join us with Jon Henderson and our good LB core would definitely have us getting to the QB often.

MIAMI (AP) -- Special teams standout Keith Davis signed Tuesday with the Miami Dolphins after spending the past five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

His agent, Curtis Stephens, confirmed the signing. The Dolphins said they had no immediate announcements.

Davis will play for new Miami coach Tony Sparano, a former Cowboys assistant, and joins a team that went 1-15 last year.

He was the Cowboys' special teams captain. He made 69 tackles on special teams in the past four years and also has 22 career starts at safety.

Davis was an undrafted free agent in 2002 out of Sam Houston State.

IRVING -- Cornerback Nate Jones is the latest Dallas Cowboy headed for South Beach.

Jones, an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year deal Friday with the Miami Dolphins.

Jones, who visited Miami on Thursday and Friday and Minnesota earlier in the week, reunites with former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, now the vice president of football operations with the Dolphins. Parcells drafted Jones in the seventh round in 2004 and valued his intelligence, versatility and special teams play.

Jones will also play again under Cowboys former secondary coach Todd Bowles, who is Miami's assistant head coach. Jones joins ex-Cowboys safety Keith Davis, who agreed to a deal with the Dolphins on Tuesday--my above post.

Jones was the team's fourth cornerback and a key special teams player in 2007. Coach Wade Phillips effectively used Jones on blitzes packages.

Jones was the last of six Cowboys unrestricted free agents to sign. Dallas kept left tackle Flozell Adams and safety Ken Hamlin and lost running back Julius Jones (Seattle), Davis and cornerback Jacques Reeves (Houston).

We might as well change our name to the Miami Cowboys........because half of our team is/were recently cowboys

Hot off the presses, ladies and gents: OT Jake Long looks like the pick if he wants it:

The Miami Dolphins could soon be off the clock.

The Dolphins have formally begun contract negotiations with agent Tom Condon about the prospect of selecting former Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long as the first overall selection in this year's draft.

Condon, who also represents Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, was in South Florida early this week to negotiate specifically on behalf of Long at the request of the team, The Miami Herald has learned.

http://www.miamiherald.com/614/story/489210.html

This doesn't say Chris Long won't be the pick, but with Sparano as a former O-line coach and our lack of lineman this looks like the choice.

In my opinion, this is a pretty solid move for a team that couldn't trade out. Jake Long is being looked at as a potential franchise lineman, and the Dolphins have NO ONE except Vernon Carey who is even decent. It also means the team is happy enough with Beck, Ronnie Brown, and Matt Roth to pass up Ryan, McFadden, and Chris Long...so they must be doing something right.

I think its a good move for the first round... but after that we better get some guys that can do some damage offensively. We dont really have that explosive guy who can just make a huge play when we need it. Defense is also a big concern, but without a consistent offense then the defense will never get a break, and suffer.

Kind of the safe pick, but the Dolphins are going to need some major help on the offensive side of the ball.

Probably the safest pick. They need to go after a QB in the 2nd round though. Brohm could be available or Colt Brennan. You already have a stud at RB, get another WR and work on that defense.

If the Dolphins go QB in the second round it will most likely be either be Brohm, Joe Flacco, or Michigan QB Chad Henne. Apparently, word is that Parcells is in love with Henne so that might be the next QB on their board after Ryan. Kinda interesting, but there is a decent shot they go all Michigan with their first two picks by going Jake Long and then Chad Henne.

Colt Brennan has been demolished this offseason by scouts, so his stock has dropped considerably. If the Phins want him, they can probably get him in the 4th or 5th round. It'll be a shock if he goes on the first day, but he is definitely interesting. Another thing that hurt his stock is that he went to his weigh in and looked sickly thin, making people wonder if he'd hold up with people like Michael Strahan sacking him.

Michigan tackle Jake Long has signed a multiyear contract with the Miami Dolphins, who plan to select him with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft on Saturday.

The Dolphins were interested in trading the top pick, but no suitors surfaced -- so they decided to sign Long and avoid a possible holdout. Last year's top pick, JaMarcus Russell, missed all of training camp before signing a $61 million contract with the Oakland Raiders.

The new Miami regime led by Bill Parcells began negotiations last week with Long's agent, Tom Condon. Offensive line is considered the biggest need for the Dolphins, who went 1-15 last year, and new Miami coach Tony Sparano coached the offensive line with the Dallas Cowboys.

Eh, he'll be good, but Miami would have been way better off if they could have traded out of that spot.

I don't even want to know how much money we gave him... :/

Even if he is a good player, it's like were setting him up to fail by throwing so much money at him and all the expectations. Looks like a recipe for distaster. Eh, its not like people thought we would do good this upcoming season anyways.
