The Pats remind me of the Lakers of the early 2000s picking up players to play for a championship-like caliber team.

Zach Thomas signed with the Cowboys. At least it's not the Patriots.

When I heard Zach was going to the Cowboys it was a breath of fresh air. Not even in the same conference :)

Now we can focus on the draft. I'm hoping we can trade out of that top spot, but for now it looks likely the Phins will grab Chris Long if they're stuck there. The Matt Ryan talk is interesting, but I'd be surprised if it was more than a smokescreen.

Are the Dolphins going to trade Taylor? I heard that could be a rumor as well. Let's see who they will draft. Matt Ryan is probably the safest player to draft but who knows?

I think the Phins are looking at that possibility right now. To be honest, although he is the face of the Phins it might not be a bad idea in the long term. The team is at least 2 years away from competing and getting seriously younger so it could help.

A lot of people are looking at the players the team signed today on the first day of free agency and thinking it leans towards the #1 overall pick being either Chris or Jake Long. I agree with that.

Oh, speaking of players signed, the team got Josh McCown. Not exactly exciting, but could be worse I guess.

Veteran defensive tackle Jason Ferguson was acquired in a trade from the Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver Ernest Wilford and tight end Sean Ryan were both signed as unrestricted free agents, Wilford from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Ryan from the New York Jets.

For Wilford, a fourth-round draft choice of the Jaguars in 2004, he is coming off of his second best season, one in which he led Jacksonville with 45 receptions for 518 yards and three touchdowns and added eight more catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs. At 6-4, 218, Wilford has proven to be a solid possession receiver who also can get down the field and the Dolphins signed him to a four-year deal.

Good pickup with Wilford, I must say. He was their #1 guy so good stuff Parcells.

Josh McCown will try to succeed where 12 others have failed since Dan Marino retired—at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

Miami will be the fourth team for McCown since he turned pro with Arizona in 2002. Last year he started nine games for Oakland, throwing for 10 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Beck will be the lone holdover this year for the Dolphins, who may draft a quarterback in April. They released Green two weeks ago, and Lemon signed as a free agent Friday with Jacksonville.
---

The trade for Ferguson, 33, also involved draft choices. Miami and Dallas exchanged sixth-round picks in the April draft, and the Cowboys received the Dolphins’ sixth-rounder in 2009.

Parcells is completely overhauling the defense, which is a verrrrry good thing. They were old and oft-injured, so getting some new blood in there is smart. Word is it's between us and the Jets for Calvin Pace, a great Linebacker from Arizona.

I am a fan of the Wilford signing and can see him doing well. -He better, because the team gave him a HUGE signing bonus.

The team really needs some help in the secondary and offensive line at this point, which they will probably get in the draft. People are starting to discuss the possibility of offensive lineman Jake Long as the #1 pick overall.

Our team got a lot better in the first day of free agency, but I still worry about the QB spot. The thinking right now on Parcells' part seems to be "Let's upgrade the team as a whole, so if John Beck fails we know for good that we should look elsewhere for our franchise QB next year". This thinking is good for the long term, but it's tough to stomach going into another year with huge question marks at that spot.

Jason Taylor and Miami Dolphins amicably agree to part ways!

Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor has already moved away from South Florida. The only thing left is to figure out his next address.

Three sources close to the Dolphins organization said this week that Taylor and the team he has been part of for 11 years have graciously agreed to part ways between now and the NFL draft April 26. There’s no animosity between Taylor and new Dolphins guru Bill Parcells or coach Tony Sparano.

Huge news as the regime change is in full effect. This is sad because Taylor is obviously the team's best player, but the team is getting young and is a few years away from competing. I'll miss him, but you have to agree this is better for the team long term if we get compensation.

Man..all of our best players are leaving. There is no way we can improve if all the best players just leave. It sucks because how can you replace those guys? If we dont get compensation and he just leaves..were screwed. I hope we can draft well because we really need some franchise cornerstones to work with.

It sucks that Zach Thomas left because i had his jersey..

Wilford is a solid pickup for you guys at WR. He probably will end up your #1 depending on if you guys go after Javon Walker or not. He showed promise last year in Jacksonville. Hopefully you guys can trade Taylor for a couple of draft picks and rebuild and in a few years think about contending. Josh McCown is well......alright, he could improve though he's still young. I think the Dolphins are heading into the right direction so far. Parcells is having a makeover session with this team.

Jason Taylor NOT to be traded, says Bill Parcells!

Man, what a wacky offseason this has been and it's only been 2 days into the free agent period. I hope this doesn't have to do with us not being able to sign Calvin Pace. Pace is currently deciding between the Phins and the Jets and is one heck of a player. Cmon Calvin, pick us!
