Good luck to Kevin Smith. I hope he gets the record, but I doubt he'll get an invite to the Heisman ceremony. A lot has to do with level of competition, and frankly, UCF hasn't played the most difficult schedule. Still, it would mean a lot for him to get the record. Congrats to UCF for beating Tulsa and winning CUSA. I'm looking forward to watching them in the Autozone liberty bowl. As for the Bulls, men's basketball beat UCF on Saturday night. It was a fun, albeit sloppy, game. No offense, but the UCF post-free throw cheer is, eh, kinda stupid. USF is undefeated in the state, with wins at FSU, vs UCF, and at FIU, and have won 5 straight overall. As for USF football, we will be playing in the 74th Sun Bowl in El Paso Texas against Oregon on New Year's Eve. Should be an exciting matchup as both teams were perched at #2 in the BCS during the season. Unfortunately, USF finished at #21 in the final BCS standings (despite the computer polls ranking us at 14 - I guess it shows how far reputation will get you in the human polls). I'll be pulling for all the Florida teams in their respective bowls this year, and there are a bunch of em, so it should be exciting. |

Kevin Smith won't get an invite. And that's a damn shame. He wasn't even a finalist for the Doak Walker. Oh well, he can vent his frustration on Mississippi State, then make his case next year. |

Even if he does the same thing next year, do you really think he will have a chance to get to the Heisman considering he plays in CUSA? Against the best defense he faced this year, at USF, he only got 55 yards. That really makes people doubt his legitimacy. He needs to step up and prove himself against quality opponents. He doesn't get that chance very often playing in a second-tier conference, so he needs to make more of his opportunities when they come around. Completely unrelated, but equally interesting, USF defensive end George Selvie and cornerback Mike Jenkins have been name to the NCAA all-american first team. They are the only players from the Big East to make the team, as well as the only players from a Florida university. Congrats to them! |

They play USF again next year. If he runs roughshod over them next time, that will make the world give him a look. |

I've seen the light, I've been rooting for him all season. My only point is this - do you think Kevin Smith would have put up the same numbers if he wasn't a C-USA runner? If he played high quality opponents week in and week out, I just don't see him putting up those kind of numbers. He's a great back for sure, I just think his stats are a bit inflated because of the mediocrity of the teams he plays against. I hope he breaks the record, I really do. But I still don't think anyone will consider him a top 5 running back in college football. |

Back in town after a very long 48-hour period. Went to the UCF-UCONN game and lost another close one by 3. Refs didn't help us at all in that game but we couldn't buy a shot early in the 2nd half. Gives me some hope for the C-USA schedule that if we play hard we'll dominate most of the conference. So after that, me and 6 other guys drove in an Escalade and got to Memphis in 12 hours (stops included). I personally only got a half hour of sleep. We tailgated from about 4 hour to kickoff. MSU fans didn't impress me. Us 7 guys could be well overheard over hundreds of cowbells. Bulldog fans didn't even know where our school was and were talking incompetent sh*t.COLD AS HELL in the stadium. Sat in 101 right next to our band and with the wind chill it was definitely in the low 30s as some people even started to light up cigarettes. As for the game, our offensive coordinator needs to be fired because he was horrible in mixing up the playcalls and MSU knew exactly when 24K would get the ball. Kevin did his best but with Israel playing like a**, of course they'd stack the box. On 3rd and longs that 3-5-3 they played was damn nice. OUR DEFENSE WAS PHENOMENAL, I knew late though that it was a matter of time before they'd finally cough the TD up. Valiant effort by our guys but this was one game where Israel literally f*cked us entirely. Torres makes the difficult 45-yarder but couldn't make the easier ones, say hello to Matt Prater for him. He actually looked fatter than 3 weeks ago. ![]() That loss left a sore taste in my mouth, didn't helped that I felt like complete a** the whole game because of being sick. Of course the MSU faithful after their 40k+ fans were overshadowed by our 10k+ (VOICES AND CHANTS ARE LOUDER THAN COWBELLS), they were nagging us and all but I just had to deal with it. Beale Street was awesome later that night though. Super food and great atmosphere. The city is pretty dirty but that little downtown area is sweetness. Let's hope for another great season in '08. We left 3 a.m. today and made some very nice stops in Atlanta and Gainesville as it helped offset the losses a bunch. At least the Magic won Friday and Saturday.

its not the offensive coordinators fault when kyle israel is our QB, everytime he goes back to pass i just imagine something bad happening and we got by this year w/ a really anemic passing game cause of 24K but its not going to work in the future i want to see the playcalling with a QB who can actually throw the ball past 40 yds down the field and not have a ball be a dead duck past a 20 yd throw before I call for the offensive coord head its been a great year but even when we were winning it was obvious our passing game really sucked and I dont want to know Israels stats if we actually let him throw the ball more than he did this year so hopefully next year somebody can step up and we can have a decent passing game and take the pressure off 24K |

He's a great back, but the fact that he didn't play on the big stage may hurt his draft value. If he had the same numbers at, say, Ohio State then he'd be a definite top 5 pick in the draft. If anyone is interested, Mike Jenkins (CB), Trae Williams (CB), and Ben Moffit (LB) of USF are all expected to go in the first two rounds. Mel Kiper at ESPN has Jenkins as his #10 prospect in the draft, and the #1 defensive back, for what its worth. |
