NOTE FROM THE FORUM OWNER:

We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. Thank you for the kind words. Its great to have you on the site! :)

A big reason for the lack of hate is that we seem to respect each other a lot on this site. A lot of other forums have people calling each other names and really being jerks to each other, but its almost like a huge family on this site, corny as it may sound.

It really is great to be able to chill with some Magic fans (especially since I'm nowhere near Orlando), and I want to take this time to thank all of you guys on the board for your conduct and amazing posts. You make it very, very easy to be an administrator.

I too was hoping NBA: The Life would hang around after the Francis deal. He seemed to be a big Francis fan, so who knows? If he is rooting for the Knicks now, may God rest his soul!

I was thinking the same thing. What a GREAT problem to have!!!

I am leaning towards your thought B&B. Nelson as the starter and Arroyo to back him, but I think the minutes should be more even. Maybe Nelson gets 27-28 min per game while Arroyo gets 20 min per game.

Make no mistake, Arroyo off the bench is a deadly option with the amount of energy he brings. Especially in the House where he's going to have his own fan base cheering every time he walks on the court.

Well, there's 240 minutes to distribute between all of the players. Sooner or later, Hill will have to go with some kind of 8-9 man rotation, but that's going to be rather hard with this team. We've seen every single person step up in one way or another. The most important thing is to get every single guy committed to the philosophy and plan of the team so there's no griping, no fighting, etc. If they get the guys to commit and believe in what Coach Hill and the organization want to do, then they're going to be a lethal team. This is a team full of players no one wanted. Darko, Ariza, Nelson, Dooling, Battie, etc.

In my eyes, that makes them lethal. They're playing with a chip on their shoulders, and they know what each other has been through before in the past, having to sit on the bench, and suffer through not getting playing time. I think if they all buy into what Hill wants to do, then they'll be together for a long time to come. They have to buy into that team philosophy. That means everyone not trying to get Max contracts, not caring about personal stats, and wanting to stick together for years upon years. Wouldn't it be amazing if Nelson, Arroyo, Milic, Howard, and Ariza are still around in 5, 8, or even 10 years from now, forming one of the strongest nucleus in the league?

Personally, in the guards spot, I see Dooling, Stevenson, Nelson, and Arroyo getting the big minutes. You have 96 minutes for the two guard spots. That gives each of them 24 minutes a piece. Now, there will be times when someone is hotter then someone else, or someone is injured, so they'll be able to get more minutes. If Arroyo and Nelson are just on fire, destroying the defense, then they'll see more minutes then Dooling and Stevenson, and vice versa. If they buy into that philosophy, then they'll be able to dominate any team in the league. They just have to be willing to sacrifice for the greater good of winning a championship.

In the forwards spot, I see Augmon more than likely gone by the end of the year, unless we keep him on the inactive list to come in if we need someone. At the SF, you'll have Hill, Hedo, and Ariza. Hill and Hedo can play that 2 and 3 spot. Ariza will have to learn the ropes, and accept just coming along slowly. He's still 20, and Hill will be gone in a few years. I can see Hill going with 20 minutes a night, Hedo a little bit more and filling in at that two spot from time to time, and Ariza getting some quality minutes every game. However, the SF spot is going to be a tough spot. It could be time to get rid of Hill after next season to allow Hedo and Ariza to shine, but I like Hill, and I think he has a few good years left if his body doesn't break down on him.

At the PF and C position, we have Darko, Dwight, Battie, Kasun, and Garrity. I personally feel that we can get rid of Kasun and Garrity, and go with a smaller rotation, allowing Hedo to play some PF at times depending on the team. Dwight, Darko, and Battie should get the bulk of the minutes though. Those three can pull 32 minutes a piece, and really just dominate the middle.

There's a lot of time management on this team, which has so much potential and talent. Brian Hill has a lot in store for him, and potentially a lot of headaches. If this team starts winning the way Hill wants them to, then they'll buy into his philosophy. He just has to manage the time well, and have the team trust in him. He needs to play the players who are going to cause problems for the defense, players who can stop a particular superstar, players who are on fire, etc.

well said all of it but the main thing here is egos and If they buy into that philosophy, then they'll be able to dominate any team in the league.

Craig, awesome post man. I agree with almost everything you write. I cant see Hedo being productive at PF too much, and I honestly think that we need Kasun until Darko shows his true worth on a consistent basis. Garrity I have been ready to scrap for a while now, but that is easier said than done unfortunately.
Still I love almost everyone on this team. Cato and Francis were two players I couldn't stand being on our floor, and both are gone. Garrity and Hill's contract are minor compared to those other two. Im happy to sit back and watch the future unravel before my eyes nowadays!

Exactly. If they get egos, then it's just not going to work, and the Magic will have to get rid of them one way or another. However, I don't know honestly how many egos you're going to see on the Magic. I mean, can you point out one guy who has an ego right now, or will end up with one. The only one that I could look at and say is potentially Dooling. But, if you run down the roster, you'll find that each player is playing with a chip on their shoulder because of what the media has said, what other players have said, etc.

Jameer Nelson: Even thoug he was the Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year, people said he was too small to be a starting guard in the NBA. Instead, he's come out, and proved everyone wrong. He's been playing with and against Iverson for a few years since he was in Philly.

Carlos Arroyo: Couldn't get any playing time in Detroit. Once again, not perceived as being a good Point Guard. Too small. Had to live in the shadow of John Stockton. However, he led Utah to the playoffs the year that Stockton retired. He's come to Orlando, and provided a spark that the Magic seriously need, and is a pass first minded point guard.

Darko Milic: I think this one is easy. Considered the biggest bust in NBA history. Constantly criticized by Larry Brown and Flip Saunders for not showing any passion. Weak. Detroit press have laid it on heavily especially after the trade.

Trevor Ariza: Not good enough for the NBA even though athletic. No jumper. Basically called a liar and an idiot by Larry Brown. Hasn't played yet for the Magic, but many feel he could be one of the best second round picks if developed the right way.

Dwight Howard: Everyone criticized the Magic for picking Howard with the #1 pick. Now, he's being called the future of the NBA, and the best 2nd year player in the league. Best rebounder in the league. 41 Double Double's this season. He was not picked for the All Star team, and has seemingly come to life because of that as well as the offense now going through him.

Grant Hill: Considered the worst Free Agent signing in a number of years. He wants to prove to the world that the Magic didn't waste their money on him, and wants to prove he can still play NBA basketball.

That right there is six players. I could do the rest, but we'd be here all night ;-)
