After our Steve Francis and Darko deals, it looks as if we are going to sit put at least until the end of the season. What do you think of the team we have going forward? After going to the Nets game last night, I got a good look at our new look Magic. My thoughts: - Arroyo was a HUGE pickup. He looked fresh, smart, was a great leader, and (best of all) Dwight Howard seems to love the little guy. My friends that I went with both said after watching him "THAT guy was the steal of that trade" - Darko was a wonderful pickup. He is a young guy with tons of upside. Watching him on the bench, he appears to be best friends with Mario Kasun. Darko and Kasun spent the ENTIRE game joking around and laughing. I wonder if Kasun shaved his head? - Dooling is a great player! He plays defense really well (although he had trouble with Jason Kidd, as is totally normal) and a really nice shot. If it comes to him being interim starting point guard, I wouldnt mind at all. - Stevenson is a pretty decent player. I stay with my assessment that he should be a quality backup, not starting. - Battie really hustles. The guy runs from floor to floor and never takes a play off. Really what we need. - Pat Garrity , if he's not shooting 3s, is completely useless. - I reeeeeally cant believe Im writing this, but Mario Kasun impressed me last night. He stayed out of foul trouble, and when he did that he was very effective on the glass and scored well. He appears to be very obviously mentoring Darko, so it might be worth keeping him after all. - Travis Diener is like he was when I loved him at Marquette: a small guy who goes at 150 mph. If he develops more, he could turn into a really good option at PG. Right now, he is logging the right amount of minutes. - Dwight Howard is the man. We all know this - Nelson , when he returns, will continue to light it up for us. - Grant Hill isnt worth mentioning. - Turkoglu is the wild card. This is his chance to really step up with Francis gone. At the least, he can get his value up so that we can deal him. I dont like the idea of him starting indefinitely though. Overall, this team is poised for a lottery pick, but at the same time will give you heart and effort every night. They are also very young, so we are really peering into the future of the team when they step onto the court. I, for one, had a blast last night, and am quite happy with this group of guys we have for the time being at least. Maybe I'm just happy effort is back in Orlando. Anyhoo, that's just me guys Tell the board what you think of the new look Magic?

I voted for the 2nd to last option. I sort of like the young core of guys we have, I am just frustrated as hell because ONCE AGAIN I am hearing the word "re-build". I'm sick of always rebuiling...seems like thats all we do |

I like the potential that we have. We are better suited to play a team oriented game. And as Detroit has proven, You dont need a prolific scorer to be succesful. If we can get some defensive minded players in here then I think we could be better off. |

I like this team. It reminds me more of the heart and hustle days with the difference that we're gonna have a sh*tload of a whole mess of cap room to play with in the next couple years. With Steve gone, I feel like we no longer have a team of "under-acheivers"... it feels more like the team Brian Hill had in Shaq and Penny's early tenure. He had some good role players and two stars who were hungry. I think that's what we have here except for that we have four guys on this team that I can say are literally "HUNGRY"...Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Carlos Arroyo, and Darko Milicic. |

The last time we went through rebuilding was 99-00 season. The rest was tweaking the roster, sometimes changing it completely, but it wasnt rebuilding. We werent trying to get a manageable cap level. We werent aquiring youth. This is a real rebuilding period. |

thats what i picked. i think the mix of guys we have is a hungry bunch who work hard and dont dribble the ball around too much. as you can tell, without steve-o we move the ball much better, less turnovers, and more turnovers forced. he was the main problem. plus we almost won last night, if we would have made free throws. so when jameer, grant, and hedo come back from injury we will be fine. i think the francis trade was a super smart move. EVERYONE from school that knew about the trade said it was a stupid move... but what do they know? nothing obviously. |

Well being that he was our only defensive wing player, defending a position dominated by great players, Yeah he's our best starter. Ariza, if he proves himself and really works, is in a position to take that from him though. There has to be a better mix of defense and offense. You can't expect just to score and not stop the other team thats not how it works. |

I voted for the number one choice strictly off last night's game. I have not been a real follower of the Magic until a week ago (I guess you got me pegged by now) but I liked what I saw last night in the way of hustle, fight, and spirit. I saw defieiencies in defense, outside shooting and some things, but figuring that several key players were not in uniform and when Darko and (I'm sorry, I forgot his name but he is the one just in from the Knicks), the defense should improve. I know that with addition of more shot blocking in the form of Darko, to go with Dwight, the others can funnel opponents into the middle and let the blockers do their thing. I can see where the "rebuilding" might be just getting the new hires into synch with the present Magic players and learning how to depend on each other and what each other does in certain situations, the team can be very competitive sooner than you think. With Miami on the downward spiral as Shaq wears out and the Knicks years away from power (How long will Larry Brown be satisfied with his 'dream job?), it seems that the Magic can compete pretty soon to go deep into the playoffs. I think the future looks pretty bright, but who am I to say. I am optimistic, though. |

Allowing the wing players to penetrate gets our bigs in foul trouble, and it get's them out of rebounding position. They need to keep them out of the paint so our bigs can concentrate on guarding they're own man and rebounding. You can't pawn your defensive assignment on our bigs, That totally messes up the defensive sets. |
