EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Orlando Magic's massive rebuilding project that claimed veteran guard Steve Francis might also claim veteran forward Grant Hill, who could be traded this summer or before next season's trade deadline.

Hill told the Sentinel that he is aware "about next season's plans" and realizes that with an expiring contract he could be dealt. He did not comment further.

"I'm not sure Grant would want to be a part of the way this is going to go," said a Magic official.

A seven-time all-star, Hill would be in his final year of a seven-year, $91-million contract he signed after arriving in a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons in the summer of 2000.

With his huge contract off the books in 2007, the Magic could have enough cap room to make bids on free agents.

Hill largely has been snake-bit since coming from the Pistons, undergoing five left-ankle surgeries and then a surgery for a sports hernia last Oct. 31.

If healthy, Hill could help a contending team looking for a veteran leader

McGrady and Howard... What could have been
From my sources, Grant Hill will not be on any kind of trading blocks. Unless it is for Kevin Garnett. Who will probably be available now that NY and Timberwolves were discussing a trade last week. So don't be surprised if Magic make a move for Grant going to Timberwolves.

Why in the name of God would the T-Wolves trade us KG for Hill?

Unless they are going to try and clear house like we are doing right now. Except we have a nice plan for rebuilding. IF they did that, they would be in worse shape than the Bobcats.

lol, I don't think they care. KG dosen't want to be there anymore. So I think they could try to get grant because of his expiring contract

You can quote me on it now. If we trade Grant Hill for Kevin Garnett it will be the biggest deal in our history. Even as a veteran, he's a top 5 player and would instantly make us title contenders in the East (I'm talking a fresh start for next year when I say that).

Imagine..........

Nelson
Stevenson
Garnett
Darko
Howard

And yet Pat Garrity trade talks (once again) do not surface!

Seriously though, if trading his contract yields valuable talent in return, then why not? Other than that, if we just let his contract expire at the end of next year, couldn't we just resign him to the minimum and yet still have all that cap room?

If so, and if he were healthy and didn't want to leave, then I'd see no reason not to have his veteran leadership and talent in the clubhouse and coming off the bench. But, I wouldn't be surprised if we traded him to a contender.

It would probably be nice to trade him to a contender, but he shouldn't expect us to give him away. He should feel like he still owes this franchise something.

Words on other places are that we're receiving a lot of calls about Battie.
Please Otis and Twat, don't make this day any less better by dealing Battie. The guy has been great this year! I really hope we resign him next year. He never quits, never b**ches around, and has some great 12-10 nights...
