Francis also said something to the effect that "it's nice to be playing for team that is not rebuilding".

I hope he is not expecting a playoff appearance and a championship in NY.

Haha!

Brown Nudged Isiah Towards Francis Deal

How many wins the Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis backcourt will produce for the rest of the season is yet to be seen, but there are plenty of skeptics, including some within the Knicks organization, but it doesn't appear to be the coach.

"I'm excited about it, and I'm anxious to see how Steph and Steve play together," said Larry Brown, adding that he "bugged Isiah when I saw" that Francis was available.

With Francis on the club, and skilled athletic players like Jamal Crawford and Jalen Rose in the rotation, Marbury said the Knicks should follow the Phoenix Suns model and go up-tempo. "I don't think we should run any set plays," he said. "I think we should just be pushing the ball every chance we get."

Steve Francis has heard the skeptics who say he can't get along with Stephon Marbury. He plans to prove them wrong.

That's the word from Jeff Fried, Francis' agent, who says his client was excited all along about Wednesday's trade that sent him from Orlando to New York. Francis was even overheard telling friends in Houston over All-Star Weekend that he was keeping his fingers crossed for a trade to Gotham.

"Steve and Stephon are not going to have any problems. They're going to get along great," Fried said Wednesday night. "They got together today and talked. Stephon and Steve have worked out together in the past. They know each other well. They're going to be terrific teammates."

Fried understands that many around the league question whether the two ball-control point guards can co-exist peacefully. He even acknowledges that only time will tell for certain. But he swears the two stars will do what they can to make it work. Just to make sure they're on the same page, he plans to have Marbury and Francis over for lunch on Saturday in D.C., before the Knicks play the Wizards.

NBA GMs might chuckle at the notion of Francis and Marbury dining together. Will either one pass the rolls? And will they put the tab on the Knicks' expense account?

"It's like [the Knicks] are trying to become the Yankees," said one Eastern Conference GM when asked about New York's adding another $49 million to the payroll over the next three years. He was hardly alone. Several other league personnel types said essentially the same thing.

The Knicks, under president Isiah ("Don't call me George Steinbrenner") Thomas, seem intent on adding big names without regard to chemistry or cost. But perhaps there's a method to Thomas' madness. Maybe the Knicks are stockpiling assets now for a possible run at Kevin Garnett this summer. Far-fetched perhaps, but not impossible.

Isiah Thomas can dream too. ;)

Dee Brown answers question regarding the trade.

Quote:

Dee (Cincinnati): What in the world were the Knicks thinking in trading for Steve Francis?

Dee Brown: I think Isiah is thinking about putting a backcourt together like him and Joe Dumars. But Marbury and Francis are the same player, they both like to dominate the ball. Someone has to sacrifice. Who's going to be the sidekick: Marbury or Francis? Acquiring the most talent doesn't make the best team.

Jae (Orlando): Show me the light at the end of the tunnel! As an Orlando Magic fan, what do I have to look forward to?

Dee Brown: I think the co-GMs have done a good job of building for the future. They're going through a rebuilding process. They have two studs in Howard and Darko. They have a lot of money coming up in the next couple of years. There is a light ,and better yet, there is a plan. Now they're giving the team to Dwight Howard. When you have a plan and money, you're going in the right direction.

Nice articles gomagic33, thanks!

I'm lovin all the optimism being sent Orlandos way. Hopefully, Darko turns out to be a "stud," as Dee Brown refered to him. I do think we are going in the right direction, we got piles of potential and will soon have piles of cash, so hopefully we can make the best out of it and come out of this situation winners...

I am interested in seeing Ariza. He is in a good situation here. He has two veterans in Augmon and Hill to learn from. Because Arizas value lies in his defensive ability, Augmon could teach him a lot. Augmon in his prime was an amazing defensive player, if Ariza can just come close to that then it would be a major success.

He is a fun player to watch and he might give us that extra defensive help we need
