I'm sorry I didn't read the rest of the thread because I stopped right on this post. It says exactly what I think.
I can't believe people are upset about this deal.
We now have a young team and after next year we'll be the biggest force on the market of FA.

Oh, and Jameer is gonna lead the team and Arroyo will get major minutes. Only good news :D

Goodbye Steve. Thank you for your time here, I'm sure you'll be welcomed here when you come to play against us. Good Luck in NY :)

And now gentleman, the future is beginning for us :)

I agree, Some have been saying the same thing for like the last couple of weeks. Since this big Francis thing happened. Trade was a very good deal.... Cap space to sign a solid player, Lebron *cough* :D. Some of you guys might now realize it now. But we will have a better team than what we had for the last Decade practically. Rashard Lewis!!!!! here we come :D

I've been waiting a while to sign up, and have come close several times over the past few months, so hi, I'm new. So, let's move on to the trade, which has finally made me go ahead and register here.

First off, I love this trade. We get rid of Francis, which needed to happen. Francis didn't fit into the philosophy of the team. He just didn't fit anymore. Last year? Yeah, he was a great fit because the philosophy of the team was different then. However, this year was a completely different outlook for the team when Brian Hill came in. It had to be a team effort now. No more Steve Francis show accompanied by Dwight Howard, Grant Hill, and Hedo Turkoglu. Steve didn't understand that it was going to be the young guys that would make this team who they are. That's Dwight and Jameer. He just didn't understand it.

When the Magic traded for Darko and Arroyo, that's when the Magic finally decided that it was time to change the players on the team to fit the philosophy it was trying to instill. Bringing in young guys like Arroyo and Darko, guys who want a chance to show what they've got was a brillant move. Now, trading for Ariza, and Penny who won't even see the bench this season, means that they've gotten rid of their biggest headcase and gone ahead with the transformation. You have a ton of team-first young guys on this team now. Jameer, Dwight, Tony, Darko, Arroyo, Stevenson, etc. This is going to be the team of the future. It's a team that has a ton of potential, and while they may not show it this season, next year, they're going to come out and surprsie a lot of people. They'll have a top five draft pick, and maybe a new guy or two.

With Bo gone, Mario Kasun on his way out as well as Stacey Augmon, we're going with youth and skill. The Magic will resign Tony Battie next year, and be content with their core team that they'll want to keep around. People think Jameer and Dwight will both want Max contracts, but I don't think so. They're in love with the organization. If the team comes to them, tells them their plans, then I think they will sign for contracts that will allow for that to happen. That'll allow them to keep Arroyo and Darko as well, because they're both already thankful that the Magic traded for them, and are in love with it here. These two as well, I see them signing nice contracts, but going for that team environment, very much like the Pistons. You'll have Grant and Hedo as well, plus Keyon Dooling, Travis Diener, DeShawn Stevenson, Pat Garrity, Trevor Ariza Tony Battie, and whoever they draft next year, plus two new signees. preferably another big man and another wing player.

Everyone also keeps calling for the Magic to sign some big 2007 Free Agent, but I don't see it happening. The Maic already have their superstars in Jameer and Dwight. Just groom them, and commit that money to the players that continue to play well for your team. This is a team that they need to keep around for a few years so that they can have some consistency on the team as opposed to previous years where we keep blowing up the team. This team will be able to score once Jameer gets back, and I see Dwight continuing to average 20 points a game for the rest of the season. Arroyo will probably be starting tonight, and this is the guy who came in when John Stockton retired, and led the team to a 42-40 record. Keep this guy. If Darko plays like he did last night, then that's good. Keep playing hard, tough defense, and he'll get his shots once he's comfortable around the team. Battie is consistent. Maybe re-sign Grant to a low contract. Something tells me he'll go for that because of the fact that the Magic stuck by him during his surgeries, and he'll feel like he owes something to them. Plus, his family has been rooted here now. He won't want to pull them out and move again.

Just some quick thoughts. More later.

Craig

Great post m8!
I only disagree when you say we won't go strong in the 2007 FA... I think we will... at least we'll have the money for that. :D
A high quality vet and another top player (not superstar) in two years, with fully healthy Dwight and Jameer would make this team a probable contender.
And I'm not being ironic here... he now have everything to rebuild this franchise into something big again!

Well really our 2007 FA period will determine on how well we play next year....or basically how well Nelson and Howard play together next year. If we bomb next year, crickets will be chirping.

DT also said on the team that we are still looking at other deals.

Surely it wouldn't be anything worthwhile, but who knows?

not to say i told you so, but didnt i say awhile back that we should trade francis for an expiring contract and a young role player and possibly a first round pick? im sure you guys remember because h2h and i had arguments over this all the time. at first i said we should trade for antonio davis, which was me just venting because i was so pissed. but after regrouping, i did say that we should just bite the bullet and let dwight and nelson run the team until they fulfill their potential and we should trade francis for a role player and expiring contract.

You were right magiclive and magic333

I got caught up in the Francis potential and my belief that this was going to be "our year" and it's taken today to really get me back to reality. I was still seeing the Francis from last year and he really wasn't the same this year. I DID think that he was trying to make it work, but in the end it just didn't work.
