We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. I've been waiting a while to sign up, and have come close several times over the past few months, so hi, I'm new. So, let's move on to the trade, which has finally made me go ahead and register here.
First off, I love this trade. We get rid of Francis, which needed to happen. Francis didn't fit into the philosophy of the team. He just didn't fit anymore. Last year? Yeah, he was a great fit because the philosophy of the team was different then. However, this year was a completely different outlook for the team when Brian Hill came in. It had to be a team effort now. No more Steve Francis show accompanied by Dwight Howard, Grant Hill, and Hedo Turkoglu. Steve didn't understand that it was going to be the young guys that would make this team who they are. That's Dwight and Jameer. He just didn't understand it.
When the Magic traded for Darko and Arroyo, that's when the Magic finally decided that it was time to change the players on the team to fit the philosophy it was trying to instill. Bringing in young guys like Arroyo and Darko, guys who want a chance to show what they've got was a brillant move. Now, trading for Ariza, and Penny who won't even see the bench this season, means that they've gotten rid of their biggest headcase and gone ahead with the transformation. You have a ton of team-first young guys on this team now. Jameer, Dwight, Tony, Darko, Arroyo, Stevenson, etc. This is going to be the team of the future. It's a team that has a ton of potential, and while they may not show it this season, next year, they're going to come out and surprsie a lot of people. They'll have a top five draft pick, and maybe a new guy or two.
With Bo gone, Mario Kasun on his way out as well as Stacey Augmon, we're going with youth and skill. The Magic will resign Tony Battie next year, and be content with their core team that they'll want to keep around. People think Jameer and Dwight will both want Max contracts, but I don't think so. They're in love with the organization. If the team comes to them, tells them their plans, then I think they will sign for contracts that will allow for that to happen. That'll allow them to keep Arroyo and Darko as well, because they're both already thankful that the Magic traded for them, and are in love with it here. These two as well, I see them signing nice contracts, but going for that team environment, very much like the Pistons. You'll have Grant and Hedo as well, plus Keyon Dooling, Travis Diener, DeShawn Stevenson, Pat Garrity, Trevor Ariza Tony Battie, and whoever they draft next year, plus two new signees. preferably another big man and another wing player.
Everyone also keeps calling for the Magic to sign some big 2007 Free Agent, but I don't see it happening. The Maic already have their superstars in Jameer and Dwight. Just groom them, and commit that money to the players that continue to play well for your team. This is a team that they need to keep around for a few years so that they can have some consistency on the team as opposed to previous years where we keep blowing up the team. This team will be able to score once Jameer gets back, and I see Dwight continuing to average 20 points a game for the rest of the season. Arroyo will probably be starting tonight, and this is the guy who came in when John Stockton retired, and led the team to a 42-40 record. Keep this guy. If Darko plays like he did last night, then that's good. Keep playing hard, tough defense, and he'll get his shots once he's comfortable around the team. Battie is consistent. Maybe re-sign Grant to a low contract. Something tells me he'll go for that because of the fact that the Magic stuck by him during his surgeries, and he'll feel like he owes something to them. Plus, his family has been rooted here now. He won't want to pull them out and move again.
Just some quick thoughts. More later.

One thing I will say is that even though Francis, Cato, and Mobley are gone, I STILL do not think we can be mad about the T-Mac trade. He was going to leave the team and we tried to get something in return. It just didn't work out. No hard feelings toward Francis and no hard feelings toward the Ice Man for making that deal.
Let's just get better these next 29 games and move on.

Trevor is an athletic young small with gooddefensive skills (for once) and can actually shoot the ball, unlike steve, which will allow us to spread the floor.

Ok with the comment of Crawford being a worse shooter than Francis all I have to say is WTF!? Crawford jacks them up but he makes them. His 3% is solid as is his FG%

TREVOR ARIZA Position: SF Class: Fr School: UCLA Conference: Pac-10 Ht., Wt.: 6'8, 200
Selected by New York Knicks Round 2, pick 14 (43 overall) BIO: Ariza is an early-entry candidate who entered the draft after just one season at UCLA. Ariza averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Bruins, who struggled as a team. Ariza has virtually no outside game, but knows how to use his athletic frame to his advantage on the interior. The Miami-born Ariza played his high school ball in Los Angeles and had a notable game as a senior in which he guard LeBron James and had little success. Ariza is a developing talent whose game may have retarded in college and could flourish with proper tutelage in the NBA.
ANALYSIS: Ariza is an excellent athlete who was a College Basketball News’ first team All-Freshman. He is a good ballhandler for his size but needs to improve his outside shot. Ariza is a bit of a “tweener” in that he lacks the bulk of a power forward and does not have the outside game of a small forward. He put his name into the draft and signed with an agent, ending his college eligibility. Ariza had just a middling showing at the Chicago pre-draft camp and is a likely second-round selection.
POSITIVES: Ariza has the lankiness clubs crave at small forward. He stands 6-8, has a long wingspan and a physical build manufactured for athleticism. Scouts believe he can be a defensive stopper with his combination of length and mobility. Ariza is a great ball thief who can key the transition game. He thrives offensively in up-tempo settings and should develop into a solid rebounder.
NEGATIVES: In the half-court game, Ariza will have trouble putting points on the board. His shooting skills leave a lot to be desired and he lacks NBA-caliber strength. Ariza likely will have to pay his dues in the minor leagues or Europe before he can stick. If he is persistent in chasing his dream, he will prevail. If such a journey causes him to lose confidence, he will be yet another phenom who made the jump too soon.

Looking at all this, I am hoping he becomes a Tayshaun Prince without the deep shot.

It's like having to hold a 2 year old's hand while crossing the road.
Jacking up shots = Shooting ill advised shots, Shooting when he should pass or drive. He's a better shooter than francis, Just dumber.

Thank god we didn't get Crawford, at least...
Though I'm not really sold on Ariza yet, either.
