Nelson: Specialists say foot has cartilage damage

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson said Tuesday he officially has been diagnosed with "cartilage damage'' in his right foot and will be out three weeks, placing his return in early- to mid-March. Nelson said he saw two specialists over the all-star break, one in Houston and the other in Charlotte, N.C. "Both of them said the same thing . . . damaged cartilage,'' Nelson said. "I'm doing everything I'm supposed to as far as treatment. I definitely want to play, but I'm not going to do anything stupid.'' Nelson, who has missed 15 games, said he believes he injured the foot in a game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Jan. 20.

IMO, this doen't sound too good. If it's cartilage damage, I think he should just take the rest of the season off instead of risking hurting it even more.

yea i agree... just let him sit and get better... we dont need another hill situation wear he keeps tryin to come back and hurts himself worst. Im ok with him just resting, and letting aroyo get acclimated to our offense.

I too say let him just sit out the rest of the season. We're going nowhere, so lets see what Arroyo can do and let Milicic start steadily getting more playing time.

The season is shot, might as well develop our younger guys and get a higher draft pick. What do I expect to happen, though? Brian Hill will continue to try to win, just like Johnny Davis did in the '03-'04 season. Can't really blame him - he wants job security.

I don't think Brian Hill really has to worry about job security. He was hired under the new management and brought in as a fan favorite.

Now it looks like Otis is rebuilding the way it should be done: drop the baggage, get young, get cap relief and make wise draft picks (well 3 out of 4).

It looks like the expectation is not to make the playoffs but to develop the youth on the team. If Brian Hill keeps racking up loss after loss, I don't think management would mind as much as long as he gives a majority of the minutes to the youngsters.

Of course Brian Hill will continue to try and win, I wouldn't expect anything less from a professional coach in a competetive league. But I don't think his job is in jepordy if he doesn't win.

This sucks to read. I dont want nelson out.
Still, if in the end it helps us with draft position, everything happens for a reason ;)
