Jamal Crawford; What kind of player is he?

It seems more and more likely that the Magic will acquire Jamal Crawford from the Knicks. Everywhere I read, I see Jamal/Taylor/Ariza (in at least one online publication) Maurice Taylor is cap relief filler and it seems that Jamal is the key piece to this trade.

Who is he as a player and what will his dynamic be??

PROS

He is the explosive scorer that the Magic need.
He can create his own shot.
He will be that three point threat
He shores up a legitamite starter in one of the Magic's weakest positions.
In future trades, his contract is a lot easier to move than Steve Francis'

CONS

He is considered shot happy.
He has baggage that goes aorund with him.
He has a pretty high salary.

I am not going to sugar coat this or anything, but I don't want Jamal Crawford on this team.

He is a shoot first type of player and that is detrimental to the development of our young guys. Jamal maybe more explosive offensively than Steve Francis (not much more), but he has the exact same mentality as Francis - shoot first, involve teammates second.

While he may not have as high of a price tag as Steve O, we are basically trading our problem player for another problem player WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!!

Jamal's attitude problem has plagued teams ever since he was in college:

-He was suspended for 14 games when he was a member of the Michigan Wolverines for accepting gifts and trying to declare for the draft while still player NCAA basketball

-He was run out of Chicago because of disagreements with Bill Cartwright. I found this excerpt from an old article:
Quote:

Jamal Crawford's reluctance to listen to Bill Cartwright regarding an entry pass into the post, instead deciding to shoot caused Bill Cartwright to dismiss Jamal from practice on Tuesday. This overt disrespect of his head coach shows what a point guard must have, leadership.

-It's no surprise that Larry Brown is not high on Jamal either. Jamal has been used sporadically throught this season, even at one point sitting on the bench while rookie Nate Robinson started.

While it looks like this trade is going down, I just hope Otis makes the biggest effort to at least squeeze Trevor Ariza out of this, especially with our depth at SF now.

^^He's been playing a little of both in NY, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL HE'S PLAYING PG FOR US!! He's shot happy, like jonboy said, but he left out one key factor. HE DOESN'T PLAY DEFENSE!! Another score happy non defensive wing player. I'm telling you it's not what we need, we hae enough scorers.

We desperately need SF's right now. Chances are, if the Magic do not acquire one in the Francis trade, they may search for a veteran who's not currently signed to a team and sign him to a 10-game contract. They may contact Latrell Sprewell...can't he play the SF position?

I know we don't really want him, but we desperately need someone who can at least play with a chip on his shoulder and after not being signed to any team this year, you can be sure he does...plus...he needs the money, he has a family to feed.

The last thing the Magic need to do is reanrrange the trade to fix a hole at SF right now. Turk will come back from the injury eventually, so there is no need to comprimise the long term future in order to fill the hole now.

However, the Magic could try an squeeze one more lesser known (or young) talent as cap filler, but who has enough potential to give him a shot.

**cough**cough**

And I dont have a problem with Crawford having a shot first mentality, I mean he is a shooting guard, he will give us scoring

of course. it'll be, IMO, a win-win situation. the Magic can have a replacement while Turk and Hill are nursing their injuries and Spree will have the chance to show himself in hopes for landing a contract somewhere if he can make a splash.

this is a bad trade. we should trade garrity and francis for hardaway, david lee, and ariza. that gives us some young players that are very cheap and a lot of cap room.

Looks like Spree might go to greener pastures.

While the Spurs can only sign Thomas if the Bulls release him, there is one notable swingman still available on the free-agent market: Latrell Sprewell.

Popovich had a good relationship with Sprewell when both were in Golden State. When the Spurs discussed trying to trade for Sprewell three summers ago, assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo said he would have no problem reuniting with the player who choked him.

"He's a fantastic competitor," Popovich said. "We've talked about him, and he's somebody I've thought about for a long time. But at this point we're not sure if taking on another person even makes sense or if he'd even be willing to do something like that."

San Antonio will NOT sign Latrell Sprewell. They don't need to and it doesn't make sense for them.
