It's not impossible to keep the ball out of a players hands as much as possible, Your obviously not going to do it all the time. But a good defender makes an effort to do it as much as possible when it counts the most. A player can get a couple of steals a game, b/c the team throws an errant pass, the ball is knocked away, a player dribbles it off his foot. That's doesnt mean the guy that picks the ball up is a good defender. And even when I did watch Steve when he was in Houston he was a bad shooter. A CAREER avg. is what he avg's for his CAREER. |

steals dont equal a good defender. it indicates the player has a nose for the ball. its been said here many times.

OMFG your the moron. He is in a slump, I'm looking at his 04-05 stats because he was still in ORL at that time and he MADE a career high APG, and higher FT%. Your just missing everything I'm saying. Just because he does bad one year doesn't mean he should be in trade talks. Every player in the NBA has a year including Kobe where they reach lows. Should they be traded when they have had REALLY good results the past years and just get bad stats this year? fu*k no. Kobe went from like 30 PPG to 24 PPG and they kept him and he did better than ever the year before. I'm saying stop looking at his stats this year because I KNOW THEY SUCK. Look at his stats before. He has proven himself time and again he shouldn't be traded. But he has to NY so its pointless to argue now. And Btw 34% as a career 3pt % is good idiot.
Stevie in houston was an All-Star and he was an excellent shooter. He may have jacked them up but he produced results. This year is another story *ahem* slump as I mentioned like 80 times. Did I ever say only steals makes a good defender? NO! Look at what I said before you post. Yes it is impossible to keep the ball out of the best players hands since every game that person always gets the ball like Shaq or D-Wade. Makes an effort makes a good defender? No thats all wrong, if thats true then like I've said before Mario Kasun is an All-Star defender. Producing results (missed shots on opposing side, steals, hand in his face, blocks, etc. ) makes a good defender. EDIT: watch it buddy, this is a magic forum, dont try to come over here and start talking like this. calm down. |

I know, I just took it as a personal challenge to find as many as I could. It was fun but educational. I think the best way to look at defense is the FG%. That would show if shots were being contested, if the defender didn't have too much distance between himself and the shooter and that a hand was in the shooter's face. When someone scores 40+ points on Rip Hamilton, it shows there is more to the equation. |

Well now he can slump in NY. Where he'll still shoot bad. Why are you looking at LAST YEARS stats anyway, you're brain is equal to ground processed turkey, It doesn't matter he's gone anyway. |

This is funny. You go to insults because you can't keep up. I'm not gonna even explain why I'm looking at his previous stats because your a pretty slow person. I also said he is in NY now so its pointless to have this arguement. What was it again? OH Yeah!
And its your not you're, learn your english foo |

once again I didn't say steals solely make a good defender. If you were paying attention and reading you'd know that. |

I have a couple of good websites I look up. The salary one from hoopshype.com helps a lot with financial info. But mostly it's just taking the time and knowing where to look. I've just always learned that before you write, get all the information first because you never know when your words can be used against you. |
