SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio police early Thursday recovered a pair of stolen NBA Championship rings that belong to former San Antonio Spur Malik Rose.

A witness went to police after he heard a man brag about the rings. At first, the witness thought the man was kidding, but when he saw a TV news report about the stolen rings, he then realized it was no joke.

The rings, valued at $10,000 each, were found buried inside a PVC pipe in a drainage ditch in a West Side back yard. A Ferrari watch was also located.

A man and a woman led police to the discovery, but they will not be arrested since Rose signed a waiver indicating he would not press charges.

Police said the rings and other jewelry were taken by workers who were remodeling his North Side home last weekend.

Rose discovered the 1999 and 2003 championship rings, along with several thousand dollars' worth of other jewelry, missing when he returned from New York on Wednesday.

Police said the design company who sent the workers to Malik's home admits they hire from the downtown homeless shelter.

Geez...I'm glad for him that they were recovered. Championship rings are like the highest, best honor you can receive in professional sports. I know I'd sure be pissed off to all hell if someone stole a championship ring from me (if I had one of course :)).
