Safe to say, a dissapointing season. I predicted 46 wins, we end up with 36. We started off 13-6, spent some time briefly at the top of the Eastern Conference, but then fell apart and didnt even come close to making the playoffs. We were over .500 for much of the season, and it is sad to see us finish 10 games below. But, I say everything happens for a reason. If we had made the playoffs, JD might have gotten the extension that nobody wanted him to get. If we didn't trade Mobley, Jameer wouldn't have seen any time this season. Positives: Dwight Howard finishes the season averaging a double-double (12/10). Very impressive for our future superstar, who is only a teenager. He showed flashes of the future, when he dominated the defensive end and couldn't be stopped on the offensive end. He had career highs of 29 points, 20 rebounds and 7 blocks. He actually did 20 rebounds 3 times, most for a rookie since Tim Duncan. He played and started in all 82 games, most ever for a HS rookie. He finished with 162 powerful dunks, which is 4th in the league. He also swatted 136 shots away. Jameer Nelson was showcased after the All-star break, and didnt dissapoint. He showed his silky smooth jumpshot, blazing speed and calm decision making. The future is high for the 20th pick. He finished the season averaging 8.7ppg, 3apg and 2.4rpg while shooting 45.5% from the field. However, since all-star break, he has averaged closer to 15 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 48%. Grant Hill comeback. I called it before the season that this was Grant year. It is a shame it had to end with a shin injury, but he still played his most games ever in a Magic uniform (67), which beat out the previous 4 seasons combined. He finished the season with 20 points on 51% shooting. Every game he played he was a reliable scorer, and is one of the most efficient shooting perimeter players in the league. A chance at a real coach. I am lobbying for Eric Musselman, but there are many good coaches available, and we should be able to land one. This gives us better hope for next season under a more experienced and successful coach. Expiring contracts. We have a couple expiring contracts, which are very valuable in this league. Christie, Battie and Cato are all expiring. We could potentially get a good player in return for one or two of those players. We are sitting at 11th pick in the draft. There seem to be some good players to choose from that could help this team next season. The Magic last season added to there scouting and made it very strong, and it showed last season when they went 3/3 (Howard, Nelson, Anderson). I have confidence in the upcoming draft. The future is bright I believe. We have a rare big man talent in Dwight Howard who we can build a franchise around. Then we have talented young players like Stevenson, Nelson and Hedo. |

Good uplifting post Solid Snake. I agree with everything you said. And although I don't think he'll be back, give credit to Jent for calling Dwight's number. Although he had a loosing record, the guys that were playing for him at least looked like they wanted to play. I also liked seeing Howard at the center position. If the boy keeps growing he should slide into that role. Wasn't Shaq smaller than Dwight his rookie year? He going to be a powerhouse. So...starting lineup for next season? How do we start building around Howard and Nelson? Do we leave the team the way it is or does Weisbrod start trading away? Do we keep Hill or see whats available? I'd love to see Nelson, Redd or Allen (trade for Francis and filler), Hill, Howard, Battie Off the bench, Turk, Stevenson, any decent bigmen available that would compliment Howard we can trade Cato, Kasun for? |

great post SS. but magic there are somethings i dont agree with your post. for one dwight should not be moved over to the center position. what a waste of athleticism and mobility. a center is a totally different position and he will have to learn how to play the center position right out of the blue in the middle of the offseason. secondly, dont even come close to expecting to get someone like redd or allen. redd is gonna be back with the bucks, he loves it there. YES, DEFINITELY KEEP HILL. if they trade hill then JD is so stupid and he should suck his nuts. what i am trying to say is we need to keep hill, he is good. and another thing, dont trade francis, did you forget he had like 8979845 game winners for us??????????????? but, off the bench i agree we need anothe big guy to complimenet "BIG D". but, i hope we dont trade Kasun, cause i like him he is cool he could (key word is could) be good in the future, so lets keep him.

Kasun has been listed as a core player, so HE'S GOING NO WHERE! I think Kasun and DeClerq coming off the bench could bring some good energy and can bang other guys around. Plus, they can get into as muc foul trouble as they want. ![]() Great post, SS.

I would also like to keep Kasun. He is perfect size for a center. The little time he has gotten, I have noticed how much of a rebounding machine this guy is. This guy grabs a lot of rebounds in short amount of time. He also has this mean streak and aggressiveness about him. It is why he fouls so much, he gets so physical. I think the guy is good off the bench, I wouldnt be surprised if he was a starter one day because of his rebounding ability. Anyone who dunks on KG can't be that bad  |

i like the core players i saw on the sentinel site. Hill, Dwight, SF, Turk, Nelson, Kasun, Battie, Stevenson....pick up a starting center with the mid level exception...another pg with the vet minimum or through the draft, then get rid of christie for another small forward. I would like that team. We would keep most of our team and get some more young, productive players through free agency and draft. Also we need a shooter. |

Well there's always next year I guess. How about getting rid of Declerq? I don't like the guy. All he does is pick up the most stupid fouls. I'm still bugged with some moves made this season (Mobley for Christie). About Francis, hope my boy works his ass off this off-season and work on his pathetic turnovers. I want to see this team succeed and watch them in the playoffs. |

I have come to the conclusion that we are one good coach away from being GREAT. It was no coincidence that George Karl got the Nuggets going and that Fratello dramatically improved the Grizzlies. Those are top of the line coaches, taking teams who were struggling, and using that same roster making them legitimate playoff teams. The importance of a good coach is the underated. You can have all the great players you want, if there is no good coach, your not going to be good. So, all these trades and wanting to redo the roster again is useless, because we are just a good coach away from being close to the top. On a side note, JVG is doing wonders with that Rockets team. See, a good coach. That is all we need. |
