The mobility would be a problem, but if he's 7'9 would you want to take a chance with this guy in the 2nd round? If he's 7'9 and doesn't have to jump to dunk, he just needs a little skills to make it to the NBA. He is going to be turning 20 this year, so he is still young and with his height has some huge potential. I would maybe risk drafting him with a 2nd rounder, then send him over seas for a couple of years to try to develop. (similar to what we did with Mario Kasun)

wow he actually looked relatively thick at that height. His legs were pretty thick and it looked like he had a little bulk up top. he definitely has the height and a very solid frame for that height unlike bradley, bol, or even yao. It sounds like his skills are decent. He could be a very solid player.

They say in aisa Wang Zhizhi was going to be the best player from there, but Yao past him along time ago, here in Houston there is always talk of those players on sports radio now that Yao is here... They talked alittle about him and said he's got some good things about him and could be a NBA player with pratice..

he'll probably get drafted cause of his height of course, but how he develops over the years is what'll be interesting. Will he be stuck overseas or will he be good enough to earn minutes in the nba???

Eh, let's take a gamble on him. We could use ANY popularity right now, so let them Chinese become Magic fans!

I have to say...I'm a bit impressed. I like how his trainer is taking time with the guy, not just hyping him up just so he gets drafted high and a big pay day. He's genuinely trying to build Ming into a legit NBA player.

I agree. Its not like we will make a decent pick anyway. Everybody we have recently drafted in the mid-first round has become a bum anyway. We need all of the popularity we can get to keep this team here.

I like the matchup Ming vs. Ming, and a sh*tload of Chinese people would fill up any stadium to see that.
The kid is much tougher than Yao, and a lot stronger in his upper body. I'd definitely use our last 2nd round pick to get him if he's still on the board (someone e-mail that link to JW). Him having big hands is a huge plus as well, so he shouldn't get the ball stripped from him. :D
Sending him overseas is HORRIBLE IDEA, it wouldn't improve his toughness, he's better off coming to the NBA.
I like his trainer too, and Clifford Ray would just lick his chops if we drafted Sun Ming Ming. :D
And lastly (kind of said it before), more Chinese people would help fill up the O-RENA. :D      B)

It seems like weisbrod is a better draft evaluator already,it looks like he's basing more of who he picks who he he trades for on what they did when they played in college.Nelson college player of the year getting picked 20 is a joke.Howard just as extremely good dedication/motivation, that is unreal for someone out of high school. We'll see if they keep it up this year.Rivers/Gabriel were absolutely horrible since they based things more on potential.Hunter didn't do much at depaul and sasser may have been good at SMU,but he couldn't shoot.

Don't forget Reece Gaines from Louisville. :(

Like last year, I still have complete faith in JW with ANY move he makes this offseason.

So you've seen him play, what makes him tougher, you must have had to seen him play before right?? You do know that Yao had only missed 1 game in 3 years in the NBA right.. I've seen tape of the new guy, but not enough to say he's tougher or stonger.... lets face it, KGs very thin, but he's stonger and tougher that an OX and I feel Yao is ALMOST in the same boat... Yao has TREE TRUNKS for legs and is only 10-15 pounds lighter overall than Shaq... YAO plays basketball year around (NBA, THEN CHINA) he doesnt get the summers off to only workout like almost eveyone else in the NBA... he has to do it on the fly... We had 2 of the Rockets personal trainers stay with him in China last summer and he came in with a great deal more bulk up top, but durring the year it looks like he has lost some of the bulk and is playing better because of it... Is the new guy bigger?? maybe, but keep in mind this isnt football big doesnt mean he's a great player you need to have GREAT footwork and a hella good touch to make it in the NBA or distort the game like Shaq can.. You think the new guy can do any of these?? Not from the tape i've seen...Please do your homework before just tossing around statements..

MAN I WISH WE COULD GET HIM! THAT WOULD BE SO COOL! TO HAVE A SEVEN FOOT NINE INCH CENTER ON OUR TEAM. HE WOULD START AT CENTER AND HAVE DWIGHT GRANT STEVE AND JAMEER. SOUNDS DEADLY. ESPECIALLY WITH A 7'9" CENTER!

Even if he ended up like shawn bradley, for a second round pick, it would be a steal!
