Does anyone know how good or bad Mark Jones is?

The Orlando Magic signed former UCF guard Mark Jones Tuesday to replace forward Hedo Turkoglu, who will miss the rest of the season with a fractured left wrist.

Jones, 29, was playing for the Great Lakes Storm in Birch Run, Mich., of the Continental Basketball Association, averaging 20.8 points per game. The 6-foot-6 Jones signed a 10-day pro-rated contract for $42,000.

"Mark's ecstatic. He's some kind of excited," said Jones' agent, Jermandolan Nash, by phone.

The Magic, reeling after losing eight of nine games, have no hopes of Turkoglu returning this season, including any playoffs.

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent guard and former UCF standout Mark Jones to a 10-day contract, General Manager John Weisbrod announced today. He will be in uniform for Orlando's home game against Charlotte on Thursday night.

The 6-6, 215-pound Jones played in 41 games with the Great Lakes Storm of the Continental Basketball Association, averaging 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He finished fourth in the CBA in scoring and was named to the All-CBA Second Team. Jones has also played professionally in Venezuela, France and the Philippines.

Jones spent his senior season (1997-98) at the University of Central Florida, where he averaged 20.8 points per game (29th in the nation) and 7.3 rebounds per game. He led the Golden Knights and the Trans America Athletic Conference in scoring, and was named the TAAC Co-Player of the Year. Jones set a UCF single-game record by scoring 42 points against St. Thomas

Wow, he sounds pretty good. Then again, last year I thought that with Desmon Penigar and he ended up pretty bad for us.

Hopefully he can contribute. :D

Well, here's hoping he can produce for us and find a spot in the NBA.

It's always nice to see these hometown guys get a shot at the big time.

Heh, I remember when we signed Penigar and so many fans jumped on his bandwagon, thinking he was going to be really good for us.

I hope Jones can produce for us in limited minutes off the bench.

I believe he did.

And looking at the NBA's current roster, it appears that he's no longer in the league right now.

Obviously, the chances of Jones staying on with the team and making a squad next year are slim, but I hope him the best. According to sources, he is the first UCF player to ever play in the NBA...

Sixth Man
He should get some pretty good minutes tonight with Francis and Hedo out, our only G/SF bench player right now is Stacy Augmon. Hill and Jameer are fatigued from 2 nights ago, so I doubt they will get enough minutes.

its nice if this guy contributes at all,but it'd better if the magic miracally grabbed the 7th spot in the playoffs.cause even if they make it in as the 8th seed, they would get swept by the heat.
