Magic star denies kicking allegation

By DANNY O'NEIL
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Orlando Magic guard Steve Francis allegedly kicked a courtside photographer in the fourth quarter of last night's game at KeyArena.

Francis denied it after the game, but photographer Jeff Reinking said that he was kicked by Francis, who had fallen on top of Reinking on the baseline beneath the Magic's basket with 8:49 left in the game. Reinking spoke with an NBA security official, Robert Sale, who was making a report of the incident.

"I fell back, couldn't get away from him," Reinking was heard telling the league official. "Then he kicked me."

The play happened in the fourth minute of the fourth period. Francis had attempted a layup, which was blocked by Sonics forward Rashard Lewis. Francis fell out of bounds and his legs landed on Reinking, a courtside photographer for the NBA who was seated on the baseline beneath the basket.

"I just put my hand to move his leg and protect myself like I've done 100 times before," Reinking said.

It was after Francis had landed that he kicked him Reinking. Reinking said he remembered just one "bang" from a kick though it appeared Francis may have used both feet.

Referee Bob Delaney came over to Reinking after the play to make sure he was OK. Delaney also told Reinking he would probably be asked to fill out an incident report.

Francis was asked about the incident after the game in the locker room, although a team public-relations spokesman had conferred with Francis before he spoke.

"He threw my legs down, man," Francis said. "That was it."

Francis was then asked if he kicked the photographer.

"No," Francis said. "Uh-uh. I don't know what happened."

Francis was booed by the crowd the next time he touched the ball as plenty of people saw the incident.

I was watching, and I dont remember it.....

But he is suspended indefinitely. Jameer starts tonigt in Portland. Lets see how they play without Francis now. I wouldnt be surprised if tonight looks more like a Team Effort without Stevie

Franchise must have been angry when it happened. Not sure if his diaper was wet or he thought the photographer had stolen his rattle, but it had to be a good reason for a immature whining toddler to do such a thing.

That's classic.
First, Augmon shouting obsenities, making lewd remarks and throwing body lotion at reporters.

Now this.

Fun times in Orlando

I'd assume what he yelled was something along the lines of "You just gave me another excuse to screw over my team! Thanks!"

Rodman was actually suspended 11 games for that.

Did anyone else just hear the scream as our playoff chances just fell off a cliff?

Well Rodman kicked the guy in the groin! I dont know where Francis kicked this guy, but maybe just the fact that he actually kicked him is enough for a good size suspension.

I hate to say this but this tema might be better off w/ Steve O...it seems he always is delivering errant passes that turn into turnovers. Plus this would give him chance to rest his inflamed disc in his back which could be the culprit of his crappy shooting during our losing streak

According to a report I read, Francis kicked the guy in the thigh.

And iceveins, I kind of agree with you. I want Francis back in the lineup, but I think a few games off will help his back, give him a breather before a playoff run, and maybe give him a break from the stresses of leading this team.

I saw it on ESPNNEWS and he barely kicked the guy if he even did at all enhough to report him. I think once the NBA realizes this he won't be facing any more than another game.
