This is all off the top of my head. Chris Jent played on the early 1990's Ohio State Basketball teams that won Big Ten titles and made it to the round of 8 in 1992 (lost to the Fab Five Michigan team in a game that still pains Brutal). The star of that team was Jim Jackson (now of the Suns), and Jent was recruted by now Maryland coach Gary Williams, coached by Williams and later Randy Ayers (former 76er coach) after Williams left OSU for Maryland. I think he spent a couple years in Houston as an NBA player though he didn't get many minutes. One of those solid college players that really were not talented enough for the NBA. Jent was the hustle guy on those Ohio State teams, a decent scorer (low double figures) he played strong defense and was the guy that did the dirty work diving for loose balls, rebounding, etc. A real fan favorite. He was a small forward type who could also handle the ball well. I remember him fondly. I think selecting Jent says a good bit about where the Magic want to go. He is a firery type guy....remeinds you a bit of a taller Scott Skiles and he will get the team to play hard if nothing else. I like the pick, off the current Magic coaching staff he is young, not a retread and you know he will be wanting to make a name for himself. Brutal |

Well it's not like we are going to be THAT better this year with the new coach. But it definately is a good sign for the future. JD seems like a nice guy, but just didn't get it done. Similar to Drew Bledsoe this year (I'm a Bills fan). Great guy, but didn't get the job done and there needed to be a change. Maybe we can try and hang on to steal a playoff spot. |

Thanks Brutal, now I have an idea of what Jent brings to the table. I see why JW selected him. Firery type of coach, just what we need! He needs to light up a fire under some players' behinds for sure!

JW, learn from your mistakes and PLEASE DO NOT OFFER THIS MAN A LONG TERM CONTRACT like DAVIS and hire an established coach! |

What if Jent turns the team around, guides them to a deep run in the playoffs and the players respond to him. Remember, Jeff Van Gundy started his head coaching career in a manner much like this. Brutal |

lets not get carried away here. i dont wanna have jent become the next johnny davis, where we keep him around for a year when we should have replaced him immediately. we need to hire flip saunders or go after eric musselman immediately. |

Exactly. Chris Jent is fine as an interim coach, but baring a miracle (Magic go deep in the playoffs or something), we need to find a big name replacement coach. Actually, I thought it would have been pretty cool if Richie Adubato came in as our interim, but since Jent knows the team well and apparently gets the most respect from the players, I think he'll do a fine job for the rest of the season. |

I don't want to see anothe JD experiment, a established coach sounds much better. I would like to know what Weisbrod has to say on that. |

I think the first thing Jent ought to do is have a talk with the team and tell them he's gonna be just as nice and mellow as Davis.......then whip out a ball bat and smack Kasun on the head ala DeNiro as Al Capone, just to show them he's tough

Or maybe he could snuggle up next to Francis to try to replace Mobley |
