A night of frustration ended with a player on the home team booting the ball into the seats at TD Waterhouse Centre.

A fitting conclusion to an embarrassing display -- off the court and on -- by the Orlando Magic, who kicked away a game they needed to win Sunday night.

Whipped 98-82 by the New Jersey Nets, the Magic committed 20 turnovers, were whistled for three technical fouls and squandered a chance to halt a losing streak before leaving today on a telltale road trip.

The Magic's meltdown also included three on-court altercations -- one that could result in a Magic player being suspended -- and a locker-room confrontation between veteran Stacey Augmon and several Orlando reporters.

Orlando (31-31) lost its fourth consecutive game and dropped to .500 for the first time this season. They head out West with a 10-22 road record that doesn't bode well for their playoff plans.

The Magic only showed toughness when they got into extracurriculars with the Nets.

Magic guard Steve Francis was ejected late in the fourth quarter after picking up technical fouls No. 17 and 18, shoving Nets center Nenad Krstic. Krstic and Magic rookie Dwight Howard were T'd up after a pushing match.

Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu and Nets guard Zoran Planinic literally were butting heads until an official pulled away Turkoglu with 1.1 seconds left.

Orlando reserve center Tony Battie, thinking the game was over when the shot-clock horn sounded, walked onto the floor as officials were separating players, and could be suspended for a game. According to NBA rules, any player leaving the bench area during an altercation is subject to punishment.

Magic guard DeShawn Stevenson also might receive a one-game suspension for kicking the ball nearly into the upper deck at game's end. Ever since the brawl between the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers, the NBA is sensitive to any incident involving fans.

"I have no idea why he reacted that way. Maybe just frustration, but you can't allow yourself to do that," Magic Coach Johnny Davis said. "The game was basically over and we got an old-fashioned whipping and that you have to accept.

"You don't like it . . . the time to do something about it is while the game is in progress -- not postgame."

Augmon took exception to a question posed by a reporter to Francis. He then confronted another reporter and sprayed several of them with lotion. He had to be restrained by Magic public relations director Joel Glass.

Ironically, Augmon is the only player who refuses to be interviewed by the media.

This is Davis' philosophy. !@#!@$$%&^* >:(

They got whipped due to his lack of ability to prepare his team and to come up with solutions during the game. They got blownout when the Nets swtiched to zone, and Davis says this?

The quiet ones are normally the most volatile. He must be bottling it in.

and its something you dont see the captains of this team showing.....emotion....coach JD should have started Augmon in the 3 games Hill was out, which would have had Turk off the bench, the outcome would have been different.....

Drafting Marbury + Foyle = Championship. \o/
EDITED:
Instead of having another arguement on the board (I don't want to start another war between users, specially if it envolves me), I'll just say one thing to plasticman:

You make me laugh.
Next time, please, think before you post, ok?

I think even JW has to be scratching his head with this comment. You don't just "accept" losses, you try to PREVENT THEM.

Last night was pitiful, BUT WE NEEDED TO GET OUR A**ES KICKED AND TO GET FRUSTRATED SO WE CAN BUST SOME HEADS ON THIS ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Krstic is a little b*tch who sneaks in cheap shots as the game goes on. The Turk and Batman (the natural tough guys on this team), weren't going to take that sh*t anymore.

The wise one speaks.....errrrrr.......KICKS SOME A**.   Plastic Man has obviously had enough of the criticism Stevie has been getting and WENT OFF!!!!

Someone needs to give me some extra details of the DeShawn kicking the ball to the upper deck 'cause I didn't see it.

Anyway, The Turk did a damn good job starting and was better to start than Stacey (hell, he had 32 against the T-Wolves Friday). He came off the bench last night and put on a 3-point barrage that gave us a slither of hope.

Now I don't know who's gonna be suspended, but I'll tell you this: WE WILL BE PO'D TOMORROW VS. SACRAMENTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Thats one of the stupidest rules. Just for stepping on the court. You could have NOTHING to do with the fight, but get suspended for stepping on the court.

Wow! This article perfectly shows how volatile this team is right now, and how doomed our outlook is.
Props to Augmon though for the lotion incident, though. 'It puts the lotion on!'

At least we are showing some grit now. I believe this will make our players bond, now if we can only get rid of Davis who's idea of taking a loss is to ramble in the postgame interviews saying we did this/that wrong. >:(

Dude, i completely agree about the Davis thing. He never seems so braindead as when he is giving a postgame interview. Other coaches in this situation would talk about the team's lack of chemistry, their need to buckle down before the road trip, their failure to stop opponents runs, etc. etc. etc. What do we hear from Davis' mouth "Um, tonight we just got beat. We, uh, lost by 12. Um, they were the better team. We, uh, need to do a better job"
All I can think of is "DUDE? Did you even WATCH the game?" It's like he wakes up at the end and just rattles off a few stats and some token concession lines.
Rather than listening to Davis, i think I would EVEN rather listen to Hill's overtly nice guy speeches: "Ya know, I love these guys, they're great. Could be playing better, but they will come around. Aw shucks, let me by you a round of shirly temples and lets play some board games!"

more reports about augmon. this guys starting to sound like a real dick. sorry plasticman, but there is no justification for making crude comments to a woman reporter and then throwing things and cursing reporters out of the locker room. augmon is out of line. theres no excuse for that.
