I'm a UCF fan (takes some balls to admit that), but I think Zook and the rest of his coaching staff being fired was way too hasty. I know they lost to Mississippi State, but Mississippi St. doesn't suck that badly.

Anyway, Zook will continue to coach the team until the end of the year and then he's packing his bags.

Should make for an interesting Georgia-Florida game on Saturday. :)

I heard it at school, and it's on 740 The Team. There's gonna be an official news conference at 4:00 p.m. Just check out ESPNews or ESPN, it'll be there.

GAINESVILLE -- University of Florida football coach Ron Zook was fired earlier today but will coach the remainder of the season, sources confirmed today.

The decision ends a tenure marked by too many bad losses and negative publicity for the Florida program.

Zook was 20-13 in two-plus seasons, including 0-6 against ranked opponents in The Swamp. His fate was sealed with a 38-31 loss on Saturday at Mississippi State, at the time losers of nine straight conference games.

The defeat dropped the Gators out of the top 25 and left them 4-3, including 2-3 in the Southeastern Conference, entering Saturday's game with No. 10 Georgia.

Zook, UF President Bernie Machen and Athletic Director Jeremy Foley will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. today. Gators players will be told of Zook's firing at a 2:30 meeting.

Zook, who replaced Steve Spurrier, was never able to match Spurrier's success on the field -- or acceptance off it. Spurrier lost five games in The Swamp in 12 seasons; Zook has lost seven in less than three.

I hate when coaches get fired but have to wait until the end of the season. If I was a player, I would fill like I did'nt have to listen to what my coach had to say if he was'nt coming back next season. Just fire the guy and get it over with.

Woody Paige on PTI says that he has a very close source to Steve Spurrier that says Spurrier will interview with the Gators for the job. That could explain why Zook got fired so fast. Next couple of weeks will get interesting. :D
