There was a well-known rumor a few months ago regarding Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In this topic I'll be examining this so-called scandal.

FAQ[frequently asked questions]
I will update this whenever I receive new questions.

Q: Where did this rumor come from?
A: I am pretty sure it was first posted on the IGN boards.

Q: What are YOUR thoughts on the rumor?
A: I can't say whether I actually believe it is all true or not, but I do consider both options a possibility.

DON'T ASK FOR MY SOURCE. You will not be disappointed...

There are 34 playable characters (excluding transformations).
There are 20 starting characters, 14 hidden characters.
Six characters have been removed from the last game.
One of the "Original 12" has been removed.
There are 15 newcomers (excluding transformations).
All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.
Two character profiles will be revealed this coming week at the DOJO!! (one veteran and one newcomer).

Mock me now if you must, but I'll certainly be having the last laugh. By the end of the week, you'll see that I'm correct with at least two of the above points.

There are 34 playable characters(excluding transformations).
Well, we know of twenty-two characters(not including Zero Suit Samus)so far from the website.

There are 20 starting characters, 14 hidden characters.
If this is true, there must be two or more hidden characters already confirmed on Dojo.

Six characters have been removed from the last game.
Marth, Roy, Ganondorf, Falco, Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Pichu, and Young Link were all of the newcomers in Melee that are not yet confirmed to be in Brawl. That makes nine characters. This could mean only three of these will make it in.

One of the "Original 12" has been removed.
So far, all of the hidden characters from the first game(Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Jigglypuff)are not yet confirmed to be in Brawl. Now, an interview from the E for All Expo(click here)pretty much certifies Luigi's appearance in the playable roster. Captain Falcon is a given, especially since Assist Trophy Samurai Goroh displays the F-Zero series icon. Jigglypuff, unfortunately, could definitely be removed. But I think Ness might actually be the one to get kicked out. In the November 8th update Lucas: Special Moves, the first sentence tells us this: "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now,". Up until now? Does Sakurai mean we won't be seeing him in the third Super Smash Bros.?

There are 15 newcomers (excluding transformations).
We currently know of ten newcomers from the Smash Bros. Dojo! website. Could there be but five more?

All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.
There is only one franchise left from Melee that we haven't heard from in Brawl yet; Game & Watch. Let's take a moment to examine franchises. The numbers below are taken from the urls of each series icon.

Super Smash Bros. // 01
Donkey Kong // 02
Star Fox // 03
Kirby // 04
F-Zero // 05
Metroid // 06
Earthbound // 07
Pokémon // 08
The Legend of Zelda // 09
Mario // 10
Yoshi // 11
Fire Emblem // 12
----------
Ice Climbers // 14
Animal Crossing // 15
Wario // 16
Metal Gear Solid // 17
Kid Icarus // 18
----------
Sonic the Hedgehog // 20
NintendoDS // 21

As you can see, numbers thirteen and nineteen are missing. Now, they could be entirely new franchises, or this rumor I'm analyzing is totally false and Game & Watch is going to fill in one of those blanks. Only time will tell.

Two character profiles will be revealed this coming week at the Dojo!(one veteran and one newcomer).
See for yourself: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/list03.html
At the bottom of the page, you can see that there was indeed two characters confirmed, one a veteran and one a newcomer. We first heard about this whole rumor Sunday, August twelfth, a day before the Pokémon Trainer was revealed on the website and also when character updates were rather uncommon; making it even more difficult to randomly guess so correctly.

So, what do you think? Could this all be the real deal? We'll have to wait and see!

Notice: With the leaked release of the final roster, all of the above statements, excluding the last one, have been proven false.
