If its time to declare ones hand ... I thought I would try a Dapol train/engine kit.

The Evening Star was the last engine ever built by BR, and it was built at Swindon.
As a point of fact, Evening Star was also the name of the first ever engine to be built at Swindon many years before.

I thought I ought to admit that I have started to build this

It is the old airfix kit which Dapol now issue, and it is proving a challenge to identify the parts from all the flash, but I am slowly nibbling away at it.

PS is everyone else posting progress elsewhere?

Good question Chris. It has been quiet of late.

With so much flash can you claim to have carved the model rather than building it?

I have now sworn at it and struggled with the instructions enough and ended up with the following:

The Dapol instructions were an absolute nightmare; far too small to register and work out what was what, which was not helped by all the flash and overrun on the parts .... thankfully a really useful site I found had a set to download from the early (pre-Dapol) Airfix times.

Well done for persevering with this. I've got a Dapol issue, which was a nostalgia purchase, but the components have only a passing resemblance to the Airfix kit that I had many years ago.
