When I wander around model shows, the painting skills that most impress me are those of the 'Flat' painters. 3D effects using paint. WOW! Next on the list, comes the figure painters. What they create from resin is just amazing. From my first model show, way back in 1991, I got the hankering to build one of those sort of figures and now, 23 years later, I've taken the plunge. A US modelling site has reviewed a few of these figure, many from the E2046 company in Hong Kong. I spent a goodly amount of time on their website looking for something that would be relatively simple yet a small challenge foer my present modelling skills. ( Pause for insults and catcalls.) The figure I chose, was #FG5247 named Ignis. From wiki: Ignis (Protector of Humanity): Ignis is a Demon Hunter with fiery red hair and an attractive figure. She's an expert martial artist and has superb skills with a Katana and numerous other weapons that she uses in her Demon Hunting. Despite not having the superhuman abilities of the Narazaru, she's more than a match in battle for them, using her superb fighting skills to overcome the most dangerous of adversaries. Despite her tough exterior, she's a friendly woman who quickly becomes attracted to the main Hero of the game. However, her flaw is that she's overzealous in her work, and hence has earned enemies even among the Good-aligned demons. Needless to say, this is a Japanese video game, with all that implies. I ordered the figure on 21 May and ten days later, here it is. I think this is the first item I've bought over the internet, and felt I got super value for money for the P&P. First off, the box was wrapped in a waterproof paper, then came the box.... ![]() Inside this box was................another box supported by plastic inserts. ![]() Inside this box, a sea of bubblewrap.... ![]() Within the bubblewrap, each part was packaged seperately, some with their own bubblewrap... ![]() Antway, here's a few illustrations of Ignis from the game.. ![]() ![]() This last one, nearer the kit figure... ![]() Finally, a photo of the finished kit. Apart from a photocopied B/W shot of the parts, this is yer lot for instructions. ![]() All I have done at present, is to remove the parts from the packaging and wash them in warm soapy water. Updates as and when folks. W |

I shall be interested to see how you get on. Having enjoyed painting some WWI airmen recently I too have taken the plunge and ordered a figure from e2046. Good Luck |

I don't know I have time to fit it in this year (well - before Telford anyway), but I haven't put it away in the loft yet.... |

That looks like an interesting project! I do wonder about where they get their ideas from though. Presumably the Demons get a bit distracted which makes them easier to kill... I've also developed an interest in figure painting of late. Got half a dozen Napoleonics awaiting my brushes. Will you be painting with acrylics or oils, or a combination. Cheers, Nick |

Definately acrylics. I tried oils a long time ago and they never dried. haven't touched 'em since. After the initial launch of Tamiya's acrylic paints, I've gone over to acrylics completely. This is going to be a 'how good are you at airbrushing' model. The skin tones are going to take some work. To help, I bought a paint set for face tones from Little Cars at the Tyneside show on Sunday. It should save the mixing problem of getting the same tones time and time again. W |

Right. Off we jolly well go. As with all resin kits and accesories, removal of the pour stubs, checking for flaws and general repairs come first. I spent eight hours on this, and have got to the priming stage so I can check and repair as necessary. Every piece, no matter how small, has it's own pour stub. Thankfully, these are fairly small and easy to remove with a good razor saw. What remains can be sanded or ground away with a motor tool. As I said earlier, there are no instructions with the kit. Only by constant references to the E2046 website and some educated guesswork, have I been able to figure out the jigsaw puzzle that are the hair pieces. Some of the bits have been added as the fit requires some filler before painting commences. ![]() This piece is the easiest to locate, all one. ![]() The first puzzle piece. Three parts to add. ![]() Two more puzzle pieces. Now where do they go? ![]() The darker colour area's of the figure were undercoated grey. The two coat halves are gonna be a pig to fit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The partly assembled and undercoated figure. That front hairpiece is a real fun part to fit. Well, it's off to the filler factory to get the model nearer the painting stage. W |

Good progress. Looking at mine I was guessing about the same time to clean up and prep. Useful courage building time for the painting stage! |

Well, all I can say, Grant, is she looked nice in the photos on E2046's website! Progress to date. I primed the basic figure yesterday with white, and corrected a few previously unlocated flaws. You will note I stuck the first of the hair pieces on, it needed filling where it met with her forehead. This will make complications later on of course. ![]() I've used three colours for the skin tones, all from Vallejo's face painting set. I went this route to ensure that I had plenty of the same colour if I needed to touch up any corrections later. ![]() After the initial overall skin tone, I used a darker tone sprayed upwards along the figure to shade and then a lighter tone downwards for the highlights. With a little respray here and there, it looks quite effective. She was then coated in matt varnish to seal in the paint. ![]() For the shading, I followed advice from figure modellers on't tinternet and used pastels. Again these worked very well and when finished, another coat of mattt varnish to seal the work. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next step, the basic hair colour. W Edited by WOLFPACK, Jun 5 2014, 03:49 PM.
