I need a pointer again for some 1/48 decals that have decided to disintegrate whilst being attached to my latest model ... The decals I need are the Danger arrows from the back of the Bell 47, on the tail that point towards the tail rotor. Unfortunately the other kits I have are US variants, so I can't rob those. I don't seem to be able to find a 'generic' sheet. Which is not to say there isn't one, just that I'm probably looking in the wrong place, as I'm just getting into building my old helicopter kits. And haven't got a clue about After Market stuff, as I never intended to have to use it. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful. I doubt if Italeri would furnish me with another set of decals, but if anyone has any ideas down that avenue it would be good too! I'm keeping my fingers well and truly crossed ... |

Probably your best bet would be to create the artwork from a scan or photo, re-scale, then print on decal paper. I'm guessing this would be red on a white background, in which case use white decal paper. If creating the artwork is a bit ooh scary, I could do it for you but I'd need to know what you want created and how big it would need to be. peebeep |

You have email! If you have kits with old decals, it's best to give them some treatment before soaking or trying to use them, because the inks or the carrier may have become brittle. You can use a couple of coats of Klear, but I swear by Microscale Liquid Decal Film. You can brush it or spray it, personally I use a flat brush, load it fairly generously and just lay on one swipe. It shrinks back quite a bit, so thickness is not a problem. It's also good for sealing inkjet inks, but you need to spray it on. peebeep |

Thanks PB - I'll obtain some of that and some decal paper ... I'm assuming that it would be better to print a whole sheet at once rather than pass it through the printer multiple times? Or, because my printer can take A5 cut it into 2? Sorry about the questions - I'm well off my own beaten track here Comfort zones, who needs 'em? |

How old is the kit. Italeri are imported by The Hobby Company. If you ring them they are usually pretty helpful with replacment bits. THC |

You could do multiple passes, but as I've set up a whole load of the images on A6 it's not really necessary. I would do one test run on reasonable quality photo paper to check that everything is OK, then run your decal paper through the printer. I would chop up the sheet, because you might need a couple of runs to get the right ink settings. peebeep |

The cheapest way to use decal paper is: Print off your decal or a group onto ordinary paper. Then cut your decal paper to slightly larger than the area you have printed and sellotape it over the printed area. Pass through the printer again and there are you decals ready for sealing and use. That way you just use what you need and don't keep passing the whole sheet through the printer. cheers Grant |
